July 14, 2023 - International League (IL)
Rochester Red Wings News Release

The Rochester Plates took down the Syracuse Salt Potatoes, 4-2, on Friday night thanks to home runs from 1B Travis Blankenhorn and CF Derek Hill. The Plates scored all of their runs on long balls to earn their third-straight Duel of the Dishes victory.

The Plates jumped on the board in the top of the first inning, taking a 3-0 lead when 1B Travis Blankenhorn launched his team-leading 13th home run of the season. The three-run blast marked his team-leading ninth against right-handed pitching. The Salt Potatoes added a run back in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run from 1B Luke Voit.

Syracuse tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth inning, cutting the deficit to 3-2 when LF Ronny Mauricio launched a solo home run. The Salt Potatoes would retire the next 13 Plates hitters after RF Blake Rutherford's two-out single in the first inning. CF Derek Hill snapped that streak in the top of the sixth inning when he registered a solo home run, his ninth of the season, to give the Plates a 4-2 lead in his first game back with Rochester since 6/20.

The Plates bullpen closed the door on the Salt Potatoes, holding them to just three baserunners through the final four innings, as Rochester finished off Syracuse to win their third consecutive Duel of the Dishes and move to 7-6 in the second half of the season.

RHP Jackson Rutledge (1-0, 4.50) started on the mound for Rochester, working five innings, while allowing two runs, while walking one and striking out five batters in his first win with Rochester. LHP Joe La Sorsa came in first out of the bullpen for the Plates and pitched two scoreless innings while striking out four batters, his most in a relief appearance since 7/9/22 with Double-A Montgomery (TB). RHP Tyler Danish and RHP Gerson Moreno completed the final two scoreless innings, allowing just two base runners. Moreno earned his sixth save of the season, tying him with RHP Jordan Weems for the team lead.

1B Travis Blankenhorn earned Friday night's Diamond Pro Player of the Game after going 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in the win. Blankenhorn's performance marked his third three-RBI game of the season in his team-leading 12th multi-RBI game. The lefty now leads the team with 49 RBI, 10 more than LF Jake Alu.

Rochester returns to the field tomorrow evening for the second game of a three-game set against the Mets. RHP Jose Ureña will start for the Wings against Syracuse LHP Joey Lucchesi. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm.
