Schimpf Walk-Off Homer Gives Chihuahuas An 11-Inning Win

May 15, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
El Paso Chihuahuas News Release

The El Paso Chihuahuas lost an eight-run lead but won a game against the New Orleans Zephyrs Saturday night. Ryan Schimpf whacked a pinch-hit, game-ending two run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to give El Paso a 10-8 victory. It was the second walk-off homer in Chihuahuas' history and the first since Jake Lemmerman's game-ending grand slam on May 5, 2014.

The Chihuahuas scored four runs in the third inning and added four more in the eighth to go ahead 8-0 entering the top of the ninth inning. That's when New Orleans shocked the Southwest University Park audience by scoring eight runs on eight hits, two walks and a hit by pitch. The final out of the eight-run rally came when Manuel Margot threw out Dan Black from center field on a play at the plate.

Two pitchers who arrived from Double-A San Antonio in the last two days combined to pitch eight shutout innings Saturday. Fabio Castillo tossed seven shutout innings in his Chihuahuas' debut and sidearming righty Eric Yardley pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning out of the bullpen.

The Chihuahuas are now above .500 for the first time in 2016.
