FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Fuego (USL Premier Development League) scored three second half goals Saturday evening at Chukchansi Park in a 5-0 demolition of San Francisco City FC. Fresno's record is even at 1-1, having allowed just one goal in two matches.
Alex Caldwell drew first blood on an assist from midfielder Milton Blanco in the 31stminute, and while the match was still in doubt, goalkeeper Agustin Rey dove for a nice save on a tough angle to preserve the 1-0 lead in the 45th minute. In stoppage time, Blanco buried a free kick into the back of the net for a 2-0 Fuego lead at half.
Midfielder Tony Torres opened the second half scoring in close on a nice assist in the box from Alvaro Nogales. Nogales got back into the act moments later, scoring himself off a set up from Blanco for a 4-0 advantage. When forward Christian Cheney buried another in the 61st minute, it capped a 5-0 whitewash of the visitors from the Bay Area.
The Fuego's home schedule will resume with their next game, Thursday, May 19 against the Las Vegas Mobsters at Chukchansi Park in Downtown Fresno. The club is led in 2016 by first-year head coach Sean Lanigan, who had previously coached in the DC United developmental system.
Five Fuego home games remain this season, through July 2. For tickets, fans should visit FresnoFuego.com.
