Bees Fall to Sky Sox in 18 Innings

The Bees dropped the first game of their eight-game road trip tonight against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox with a score of 2-1 in 18 innings. The loss ends the previous 7-game winning streak. In an 18-inning marathon, tonight's game tied the franchise record for longest game in history which was previously set on April 11, 2015 against the Sacramento River Cats.

Right-hander, Kyle Kendrick, entered today's game with a 2-1 record and 5.16 ERA. After a slow start to the season, Kendrick has found his groove in the month of May. Kendrick scattered 5 hits on the evening with 7 strikeouts, 1 run, and no walks. Relievers combined for 11 shut-out innings, striking out 14 in the process.

For the first time since July 7, 2014 a position player took the mound for Salt Lake. Quintin Berry toed the rubber for .1 inning and was handed the loss.

Offensively for the Bees, Jett Bandy finished 2-for-8 and had the only RBI in the 4th inning to score Nick Buss. Nick Buss finished the night 1-for-6 with a run scored and a walk. Buss has been on a hot streak in this month sporting a robust .395 average with 6 RBI and leads the team in overall average at .346 while leading the Pacific Coast League with 46 hits on the season and is tied for first in the PCL with five triples and 20 extra base hits.

Nate Smith and the first-place Bees play the second of an eight-game road trip Sunday afternoon at 1:35. The Bees return home on Monday, May 23 against the Memphis Redbirds to open up an eight-game homestand.
