Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers continue their series against the Las Vegas 51s at 2:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark and look to extend their season-best winning streak to six games. The Dodgers have won nine of their last 11 games. Today is a Chaparral Energy Family Sunday and Yoga Night.
Last Game: Oklahoma City catcher Jack Murphy smacked a solo home run in the eighth inning and starting pitcher Julio Urias tossed six scoreless frames in the Dodgers' 1-0 win against Las Vegas Saturday in front of a sellout crowd of 9,975 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Urias turned in six scoreless innings for the third straight game. He allowed three hits and walked two, but faced just one over the minimum during the six innings thanks to two double plays and two pickoffs. Urias combined with relievers Joe Thatcher, Matt West, and Chin-Hui Tsao on Oklahoma City's fifth shutout win. Las Vegas starting pitcher Rafael Montero held the Dodgers without a hit until the fifth inning when Murphy lined a single to left field with two outs. Murphy later broke the scoreless tie between the teams in the eighth inning, leading off the frame with his second home run of the season. Thatcher and West combined for two scoreless innings before Tsao entered the game to pitch the ninth inning for Oklahoma City. The 51s collected two singles with one out. Travis Taijeron then hit a liner toward second base that Austin Barnes dove to snag for the second out of the inning. Tsao then struck out Matt Reynolds to close out the game for his sixth save. West (1-0) ended up with the win and Las Vegas pitcher Jeff Walters (0-2) was charged with the loss.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Zach Lee (5-1) looks to become the first pitcher in the PCL this season to reach six wins. He also seeks his third win in as many starts...Tuesday in Round Rock, Lee and three relievers held the Express to one run in a 3-1 victory. He became the first pitcher to five wins in the PCL in 2016 after delivering 6.1 strong innings. He allowed one run and four hits and finished with two walks and four strikeouts...In five of his six starts, Lee has allowed two or fewer earned runs. In his last two starts combined, Lee has allowed just three runs (two earned) and nine hits over 12.1 innings...So far this season, Lee has posted 27 strikeouts against five walks (5.4 K/BB)...Lee was named the Dodgers' 2015 Branch Rickey Minor League Pitcher of the Year for the second time in his career (also in 2013). He paced OKC's rotation with 11 wins in 2015, going 11-6 with a 2.70 ERA over 19 starts...Lee is 2-1 with a 1.96 ERA in four career starts against the 51s. He started one game against the 51s last season, earning a win with seven scoreless frames. He allowed four hits, one walk and had three strikeouts as the Dodgers won, 2-0, in Las Vegas, marking the team's first ever shutout at Cashman Field.
Against the 51s: 2016: 1-0 2015: 3-1 All-time: 43-45 In OKC: 21-19
Each of the last two meetings between the Dodgers and 51s have resulted in OKC pitching a shutout. In their previous meeting May 24, 2015, the Dodgers blanked the 51s, 2-0, in Las Vegas...This marks the lone series of the season between the squads and the first visit by the 51s to Bricktown since June 13-16, 2014...The Dodgers closed out their 2015 series with three straight wins, giving OKC its first series win at Cashman Field since 2005...Oklahoma City has won two straight series against the 51s for the first time since doing so in the 2005 and 2006 seasons...Current Las Vegas infielder Marc Krauss spent parts of the 2012-14 seasons playing for the OKC RedHawks.
Call to Arms: The Dodgers collected their league-leading fifth shutout win of the season Saturday and held an opponent to three or fewer runs for the ninth time through the first 13 games of May...OKC has allowed the fewest runs (120) and hits (269) in the PCL this season. Their 3.24 ERA ranks second in the league...Last night the Dodgers held the 51s 1-for-14 with runners on base, including 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
Starting Line: Over the past 14 games, OKC starting pitchers have combined to post a 1.73 ERA (14 ER/73.0 IP) and a .203 opponent average (51x251), with 20 walks and 67 strikeouts (3.35 K/BB).
It Only Takes One: Last night marked the Dodgers' first 1-0 victory since May 16, 2015 against Iowa -- coincidentally, also a Devon Energy Hometown Heroes Celebration Night. The Dodgers won that contest in the bottom of the ninth on a walk-off RBI single by Austin Barnes.
First Impressions: The Dodgers have scored first in 11 consecutive games (9-2). This season they have scored first in 25 of their 34 games, most in the PCL (20-5)...This season, the team has scored exactly 50% of its run total within the first three innings (74/148).
Double Duty: OKC turned two more double plays Saturday and have turned 17 double plays over the past 10 games, and 12 double plays over the last six games...The Dodgers have 40 total double plays through 34 games this season to lead the league.
How the West was Won: Last night Matt West worked around a leadoff double in the eighth inning to extend his season-opening scoreless streak to 14.1 innings. West has only had nine baserunners against him this season, and he leads PCL relievers with an average of 5.65 baserunners per nine innings. He's issued just one walk on the year, and his 0.63 walks per nine innings is third among PCL relievers.
Micah Moves: Micah Johnson nabbed his team-leading eighth stolen base of the season Saturday. He also collected one of Oklahoma City's four hits on the night and is 4-for-9 over the last two games with three RBI and two runs scored.
Personnel Files: Pitcher Ian Thomas has been placed on the Disabled List with minor shoulder soreness, retroactive to May 13...Lefty relievers Grant Dayton will take Thomas' place on the active roster. Dayton began the season with OKC, but has mostly played with Double-A Tulsa. In 12 appearances with the Drillers, Dayton was 3-0 with one save and a 2.30 ERA. He held Texas League opponents to a .148 average and had 28 strikeouts against three walks over 15.2 IP.
Short Hops: Oklahoma City is 6-2 in day games overall this season, including 1-0 at home...Today is the second game in a stretch of 16 straight games for the Dodgers against Pacific Conference opponents. Last season the Dodgers were 17-15 against foes from the other side of the league, but went just 7-9 at home...The Dodgers have trailed in just two of the last 63 innings...Saturday marked the sixth time this season Oklahoma City scored one or no runs in a game.
