Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, PA - Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins goaltender Dany Sabourin has been voted to the American Hockey League's 2005-06 First All-Star Team, it was announced Thursday.
Sabourin, 25, leads all players currently in the AHL with a 2.26 goals against average and is second with a .922 save percentage. He is also tied for third with 27 wins and tied for fourth with three shutouts.
The 6-2, 190 pound native of Val d'Or, Quebec has set new team records for consecutive wins (nine games, from Oct. 9-Dec. 12), consecutive road wins (eight games, from Oct. 9-Dec. 2), longest unbeaten streak (nine games, from Oct. 9-Dec. 12) and wins in a season (27) this year, while anchoring the league's best defense (167 goals against, 2.23 goals per game).
Sabourin has appeared in 46 games for the Penguins this season, the second-highest single season total in team history (Marc-Andre Fleury, 54 in 2004-05). His 35 career wins are third and on the club's all-time list, his 66 career games with the Penguins are tied for fourth, as are his four career shutouts.
Originally signed by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as a free agent prior to the 2004-05 season, Sabourin was selected to the Canadian squad at the 2006 Rbk Hockey All-Star Game, and was named the Koho/AHL Goaltender of the Month for January, when he went 7-2-1 in 10 games, with a 2.26 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage.
Sabourin is the second Penguins player to receive postseason All-Star recognition. Defenseman John Slaney was named to the AHL First All-Star Team following the 2000-01 season, which he split between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Philadelphia.
