San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO - Rampage goalie Scott Stirling blanked all five attempts in the shootout and Jeff Taffe scored the lone shootout goal as the Rampage took the contest 3-2 over the West Division leading Milwaukee Admirals in front of 3,981 at the AT&T Center.

The Rampage got off on the right foot when Daniel Winnick, playing in his first game for the Rampage, tallied a goal just 1:53 into the game. Yanick Lehoux assisted on the goal giving him 9 for the year. It was Winnick's first professional goal on his first shift.

Stirling and the Rampage were less than a minute from heading into the intermission with a lead when the Admirals struck. Rich Peverley leveled the score at 19:12 of the period. Helping on the play were Chris Durno and Libor Pivko.

The Admirals came out firing in the 2nd period and were rewarded with a quick strike. Just 23 seconds into the period Sheldon Brookbank put the Admirals on top 2-1. Durno recorded his 2nd assist of the night and Peverley added an assist to go along with his goal.

The intensity picked up as did the play of the Rampage. Following a goal mouth scrum, Steve Gainey went toe to toe with Kevin Klein resulting in one of the most exciting fights of the year.

Back and forth they went throwing and taking punches. Gainey landed a solid left straight to the face that knocked Klein's helmet off. Gainey, blood running down his face, kept landing solid left jabs. It seemed the fight was never going to end but it finally did after about 2 minutes as both players went to the ice.

Trailing 2-1 going into the 3rd stanza, the Rampage regrouped and refocused. Pascal Rheaume registered his fourteenth goal of the season at 6:43 of the period. Eric Chouinard got assist number nineteen and Dwayne Zinger tallied his 1st assist of the season.

Regulation ended with the game tied at 2 and overtime came and went without much action. The Rampage registered 2 shots in the extra session while the Admirals managed only 1. For the game the Rampage outshot the Admirals 37-33.

Without shootout specialist Karl Goehring in the lineup, Stirling proved more than capable and closed the door on all five of the Admiral shooters.

Admirals goalie Brian Finley, who finished with 34 saves, blanked the first two shooters before Taffe put the puck top shelf and gave the Rampage their only goal in the shootout. Stirling made the one goal stand up as he earned 1st star and finished the contest with 31 saves.

The Rampage will again be in action against the Admirals this Saturday, April 8th at 7pm at the AT&T Center.
