Rosemont, IL - The Chicago Wolves used two late powerplay goals in the third period to slip past the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights 3-1 on Wednesday night at Allstate Arena in suburban Chicago. It was the last meeting of the regular season between the two West Division rivals.

The Wolves carried the play in the first period, outshooting the Knights 18-3. They were helped in that regard by three powerplays. But it was during a Knights' powerplay that Chicago would score first. Kevin Doell stole a pass at center ice and worked a perfect two-on-one with Karl Stewart. Stewart knocked in his 19th of the year to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead after one.

The Knights had four powerplays in the second period but could get nothing going against the Wolves. Chicago had two man advantages of its own in the second but was also held off the board.

The Knights were awarded a five minute powerplay in the third period when Stewart got a major for boarding Tim Hambly. They could not convert the man advantage, but scored shortly thereafter. Mark Giordano got a shot from the slot that was stopped by Michael Garnett. He couldn't control the rebound, and Brandon Prust slipped the puck under him to tie the game at 16:34.

But Chicago, which had done little on six previous powerplays, was given the advantage less than two minutes later when Warren Peters was penalized for interference. Ramzi Abid converted a feed from defenseman Bob Nardella to give the Wolves the lead back for good. Kip Miller added another powerplay goal just 32 seconds later to put the game out of reach.

Krahn was solid in goal and was the tough luck loser with 27 saves. With the win, the Wolves now creep to within three points of the Knights and Iowa for the last playoff spot in the West Division.

The Knights are now 34-27-2-10. They return home for the biggest game of the season on Friday when they host the Stars at 7:00 p.m. They'll finish the home half of their regular season schedule on Saturday when they host the Peoria Rivermen at 7:00 p.m. Congressman Tom Osborne will be on hand to meet fans from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Saturday is also Nebraska Lottery Night. The first 1,000 fans age 19 and older will receive a free Nebraska Lottery scratch ticket. Anyone who brings a non-winning lottery ticket to the game can purchase a ticket for just $10.

The Knights will finish the four-in-five weekend at Peoria on Sunday.
