This season, Flaherty was also named the starting goaltender for the Canadian All-Stars at the Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic held in Winnipeg on January 31st & February 1st. Following the skills competition, he was named the top goaltender. Following the actual all-star game itself, he was named co-winner of the Most Valuable Player award.

This is Flaherty's first-ever selection to a post-season AHL All-Star Team in his career while he has been previously selected to the post-season International Hockey League Second All-Star Team on two separate occasions (1993 & 1994 with the Kansas City Blades).

The American Hockey League First and Second All-Star Teams are voted by AHL players and media in each of the league's 27 member cities. Each All-Star Team member will receive a custom designed crystal award in recognition of his selection to the 2005-06 AHL First and Second All-Star Teams.
