Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, are pleased to announce goaltender Wade Flaherty has been named to the AHL Second All-Star Team for 2005-06.
Flaherty, 38, has appeared in 46 games for the Moose this season - the fourth highest season total with one team in his 17-year career. The Terrace, B.C. native has compiled a record of 24-16-4 with a goals against average of 2.39 and a save percentage of .919. He also has six shutouts this year. His 10 shutouts in two seasons as a Moose are a franchise record. His current Moose career goals against average in 82 games is 2.36 which is also a franchise record, while his Moose career save percentage of .918 is tied for the franchise mark with Christian Bronsard who played only 33 games in his Moose career in 1998-99.
This season, Flaherty was also named the starting goaltender for the Canadian All-Stars at the Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic held in Winnipeg on January 31st & February 1st. Following the skills competition, he was named the top goaltender. Following the actual all-star game itself, he was named co-winner of the Most Valuable Player award.
This is Flaherty's first-ever selection to a post-season AHL All-Star Team in his career while he has been previously selected to the post-season International Hockey League Second All-Star Team on two separate occasions (1993 & 1994 with the Kansas City Blades).
The American Hockey League First and Second All-Star Teams are voted by AHL players and media in each of the league's 27 member cities. Each All-Star Team member will receive a custom designed crystal award in recognition of his selection to the 2005-06 AHL First and Second All-Star Teams.
