Royals Notes:
After the shoot out loss and overtime win this week, the Royals overall record is 2-0-1=5, placing the team in a tie for third place in the North Division of the American Conference.
In both games this past week, the 6-5 shootout loss to the Wheeling Nailers and the 2-1 overtime victory over the Trenton Titans, the Royals scored the game's first goal. Last year, the Royals went 36-5-3 when scoring first.
Through the first three games of the season, the Royals have scored a total of ten goals, and those goals have been scored by eight different players.
In Friday's 6-5 loss to Wheeling on Friday, the five goals scored by Reading were scored by five different players: John Morlang, Grant Jacobsen, Doug Christiansen, Rich Peverley, and Greg Hogeboom.
John Morlang's goal at the 1:52 mark of the second period on Friday was his first ECHL goal since the 2003-04 season when he scored 19 in 70 games for the Columbus Inferno.
Last year, Morlang scored 16 goals in 36 games with Danbury of the United Hockey League and 6 in 46 games with Bridgeport in the American Hockey League.
Grant Jacobsen's unassisted goal 5:11 into the second period gave the Royals a 2-0 lead in Wheeling on Friday. That was Jacobsen's first goal as professional.
Jacobsen assisted on Morlang's goal earlier in the period for his first assist as a pro.
After Wheeling came back to tie things at two, Doug Christiansen's power play goal at the 12:35 mark of the second period in Wheeling put the Royals back in the lead at 3-2.
That was the only power play goal of the evening for the Royals in five attempts with the man advantage.
With 5:05 remaining in the second period on Friday, the Royals went up 4-2 on Rich Peverley's first goal of the season.
On Friday, Peverley also assisted on Doug Christiansen's power play goal earlier in the period. For Peverley, that was his second multi-point performance in two games for the Royals. (He had two assists in the season opening 3-2 win in Johnstown.)
Peverley also scored the game winner 2:27 into overtime in the Royals' 2-1 victory over Trenton in Reading's home opener on Saturday night.
In both games this past week, the Royals led the game entering the third period. On Friday, the Royals entered the third period leading by a score of 4-2. Reading also led by a score of 1-0 entering the third period in Saturday's 2-1 overtime win over Trenton.
