Iowa Chops News Release
Fueled by two goals in the 1st period and four goals in the 2nd period, the Rockford IceHogs moved into first place in the AHL's Western Division Friday night with a 6-3 win over the Iowa Chops at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The Iowa Chops started strong, but failed to score in the 1st period for the fourth consecutive game. Two odd-man rushes led to two goals from the IceHogs by forwards Petri Kontiola and Rob Klinkhammer past Iowa Chops starting goaltender JP Levasseur. Down 2-0 heading into the 2nd period, the lead was increased to 3-0 as a shot from the point from Cam Barker trickled down the arm of Levasseur and into the net, cutting Levasseur's night short in favor of goaltender David LeNeveu. The IceHogs wasted no time getting to the new goaltender with a power play goal from Nathan Davis to make it 4-0. The Chops struck back to make it 4-1 with a power play goal from Eric Green and assists to Bobby Ryan and Brian Salcido, but just :15 seconds after that the IceHogs made it 5-1 with a goal from Troy Brouwer. Pascal Pelletier made it 6-1 on the power play towards the end of the 2nd period. The Chops tried to fight back in the 3rd period with a power play goal from Drew Miller and another from Green, but the deficit was too much to overcome. Bobby Ryan and Andrew Ebbett each finished with two assists.
