Bulldogs defeat Wolf Pack
October 17, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
HAMILTON, ONT.: Eleventh-year pro goaltender Marc Denis handed the Hartford Wolf Pack their first shutout-against of the new season Friday night at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, making 27 saves in a 2-0 Hamilton Bulldog win.
Ben Maxwell scored an even-strength goal in the first period for Hamilton, and Yanick Lehoux added a power-play tally in the third.
Maxwell opened the scoring for the Bulldogs at 15:05 of the first period, snapping a shot past Wolf Pack goaltender Miika Wiikman from low in the right-wing circle.
The second period was scoreless, and Hartford forced Denis to make 12 saves. The Wolf Pack had a five-on-three man advantage for 1:58 late in the period, as Ryan Flinn took a roughing minor at 15:02 and Chad Anderson was called for delay of game for shooting the puck out of play two seconds later, but the Hartford power play could not capitalize
After Hartford's P.A. Parenteau took a major penalty for boarding at the 10:00 of the third period, Lehoux scored on the resulting power play. Lehoux attempted to center the puck from along the goal-line to Wiikman's right, and the feed hit a Wolf Pack defender in front of the net and caromed past Wiikman.
Wiikman made 27 saves on the night.
With the loss, the Wolf Pack fall to 1-2-0-0 on the season. Hamilton is a perfect 3-0-0-0. The game was Hartford's first road outing of the year.
