Sens Battle Crunch In Home Opener Tonight
October 17, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators welcome the Syracuse Crunch and their 17-game regular season winning streak to the Arena tonight for the B-Sens home opener on Kost Tire/Auto Care magnet schedule giveaway night.
Binghamton and Syracuse battled twice during the preseason, with each team taking one victory.
The B-Sens are off to their best start since the 2003-04 season, winning their first two games on the road against Toronto and Rochester. Netminder Brian Elliott has backstopped both wins, while rookie Zack Smith is out of the gates quickly with one goal and one assist.
Defenseman Brendan Bell assisted on two of Binghamton's three goals in Sunday's win over Rochester. Speedy winger Ryan Shannon netted a power-play goal and chipped in an assist as well.
Syracuse defeated Rochester in both games of a home-and-home series last weekend to extend their regular season winning streak to 17 games, tying the AHL record set by Philadelphia during the 2004-05 season.
The Crunch are led by wingers Adam Pineault and Tom Sestito, as each player has one goal and three assists in two games thus far. Syracuse will be without standout center Derek MacKenzie tonight, as the club announced earlier this week that he will miss four-to-six weeks due to ankle surgery.
Prior to the puck drop tonight, the entire 2008-09 team will be announced. Join the B-Sens for their home opener tonight at the Arena at 7:05 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m.
2008-09 full-season, half-season tickets, coupon books, 10-game, 5-game and 4-game plans are on sale. For information on ticket packages contact the Binghamton Senators' executive office at (607) 722-SENS.
