Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators outshot the Syracuse Crunch 38-23 on Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena, but the Crunch netted four of five shootout attempts to steal the 3-2 win and hand the B-Sens their first loss of the season.
After a scoreless first period, the B-Sens grabbed a 1-0 lead when Ilya Zubov snapped a wrist shot over the left shoulder of netminder Dan LaCosta from the right faceoff dot. Defensemen Tomas Kudelka and Derek Smith assisted on the marker.
Less than seven minutes later, Zubov was at it again, this time assisting center Zack Smith's goal on a
B-Sens power play. Smith crashed the front of the crease to redirect a Zubov snap shot past LaCosta's glove, giving Binghamton a 2-0 lead.
The Crunch, though, rallied in the third period, scoring two goals two minutes and 20 seconds apart, by defenseman Clay Wilson and center Craig MacDonald.
In the shoot out, Syracuse left wing Mike York and Binghamton defenseman Brendan Bell scored in the first round. Maksim Mayorov scored in the third round, but Binghamton answered with a goal by Josh Hennessy. The game winning goal came in the fourth round by Crunch left wing John Vigilante.
The B-Sens look to rebound on Saturday night when they head to Philadelphia to take on the Phantoms at 7:05 p.m. Tune in to Grady Whittenburg, voice of the B-Sens, at 6:35 p.m. for Countdown to Faceoff on 680-AM WINR or 1430 The Team WENE.
