Admirals Home Opener Saturday Night
October 17, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-The Milwaukee Admirals will kick off the home portion of their 2008-09 schedule Saturday, October 18th when they play host to the Rockford IceHogs at 7:30 pm at the Bradley Center. All fans that come to the game will receive a magnet schedule, courtesy of Old Orchard Juice and Pick 'n Save.
"Every year the home opener brings tremendous anticipation for our fans, players and staff as we begin a new season," said Admirals President Jon Greenberg. "We pride ourselves on providing major league entertainment at a minor league price and we are excited about some of the great promotions and giveaways that we will have this year."
The home opener will be the fourth game of the season for the Admirals, who have amassed a 1-1 record in their first two contests and will play in Peoria Friday night before returning to the friendly confines of the Bradley Center. It marked the first time in the team's 32-year history that the Ads have commenced the season with three straight road games.
Head Coach Lane Lambert returns to the Admirals bench this season and also brings back a number of key players from last year's squad that posted a 44-29-4-3 record and 95 points. Last season's top scorer, Cal O'Reilly returns for his third season in Milwaukee and Antti Pihlstrom, who topped the Ads roster in goals in 2007-08, will also be back. Among the defensive corps, All-AHL Rookie Team member Cody Franson and Alexander Sulzer both return to the line-up.
Drew MacIntyre heads up a list of newcomers who could make an immediate impact on the Milwaukee roster. MacIntyre was an all-star netminder with the Manitoba Moose last season and won a combined 49 games in two seasons with the Moose. Josh Gratton and Triston Grant will each bring veteran leadership to the Admirals, while Mark Santorelli and Nick Spaling lead a highly-touted crop of first-year players.
