PLATE(S) DISCIPLINE: Playing as the Plates for the first time in 2026, Rochester came out on top against the Scranton/WB RailRiders, 3-1...LHP ANDREW ALVAREZ led the way for Rochester, striking out 10 while scattering just one hit across 5.0 strong innings of work...offensively, LF CHRISTIAN FRANKLIN notched two more hits, giving him at least one knock in each of the first five games...Rochester and Scranton/WB will play a scheduled seven-inning doubleheader today, making up Tuesday's postponed Red Wings home opener...LHP MITCHELL PARKER will take the ball in game one against New York Yankees top pitching prospect RHP Carlos Lagrange, and LHP ZACH PENROD gets the nod in the back half of the twin bill against RailRiders RHP Adam Kloffenstein...

The Red Wings have now started the season 4-1 for the first time since the 2022 season.

THE YO-HANDY MAN CAN: 3B YOHANDY MORALES went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the contest last night, extending his RBI streak to all five games to start the season...he joins Reece Hinds (LOU, 6 G) as the only players in Triple-A to have an RBI in at least five-straight games to start the season and the first Red Wing to do so since at least 2004...

Since his Triple-A debut on 5/24/2025, YoYo ranks among Rochester team leaders in hits (1st, 98), walks (1st, 48), runs (1st, 67), doubles (2nd, 21), RBI (3rd, 54), XBH (3rd, 35), and homers (4th, 12).

MERRY CHRIST(IAN)-MAS: LF CHRISTIAN FRANKLIN went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored last night, extending his team-leading hitting streak to all five games...across those five games the Kansas native is hitting .350 (7-for-20) with a double, five runs scored, and a pair of stolen bases.

Dating back to the beginning of 2025, Franklin ranks second in the International League with 83 walks, one behind former Iowa teammate Jonathon Long.

ABIMELECTRIC LOVE: DH ABIMELEC ORTIZ extended walk streak to five consecutive games last night, tied for the longest active streak in the IL and putting his total at seven on the year, tying him for third in the IL...his single in last night's game was the hardest hit baseball by a Red Wing so far this season, coming off the bat at 111.7 MPH... and ninth in the league with an OBP of .545...

The first Red Wing to work a walk in five consecutive games since ANDRES CHAPARRO had an eight-game streak from 07/23-08/1/2025.

IF THE SHU FITS: RHP SETH SHUMAN entered out of the bullpen in the ninth inning last night, and logged the first save of his professional career, in what was his 100th career appearance...the Georgia native allowed one earned on one hit with a strikeout and two walks, and is the third Red Wing to log a save in 2026, joining RHP JACKSON RUTLEDGE and RHP ORLANDO RIBALTA.

PIECE DE ALVA-REZ-ISTANCE: LHP ANDREW ALVAREZ struck out 10 with just one hit in 5.0 innings in Thursday night's contest...the left-hander became one of four Rochester pitchers since at least 2004 to strike out at least 10 in 5.0 innings or fewer, the first since Michael Soroka on 5/2/2025 against LHV, and the only pitcher to do so twice (9/22/24 vs. IOW)...he's the first IL pitcher to strike out double-digit batters and allow one hit in 5.0 innings or fewer since Allan Winans did so with SWB on 4/23/2025, and first Red Wing to do so since at least 2004.

PITCH PERFECT: The Plates' pitching staff limited the RailRiders to two hits last night for the fourth time since at least 2004, the fewest allowed in a game against the New York Yankees' top affiliate since 7/13/2018...with the win, it is the first time the Red Wings have knocked off Scranton/WB in their first two matchups of the season since 2022.

THIS DAY IN RED WINGS HISTORY...2008: On this day 18 years ago, the Rochester Red Wings opened their 2008 season with a 9-5 win at Richmond...Red Wings Hall-of-Famer GARRETT JONES picked up three hits including a double, drove in two runs and scored three of his own...speedy CF DENARD SPAN picked up a pair of hits out of the leadoff spot, going 2-for-5 with a run scored.
