Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Pittsburgh Pirates today selected the contract of shortstop Konnor Griffin, who is currently the No. 1 overall prospect in the minors according to Baseball America, FanGraphs and MLB Pipeline. He is set to become the first member of the 2026 Indianapolis Indians to make their major league debut, and the first teenager to do so since Juan Soto (Washington, March 28) and Elvis Luciano (Toronto, March 31) in 2019.
Griffin, 19, began the season with Indianapolis, hitting safely and reaching base multiple times in all five of his games with a .438 batting average (7-for-16), .571 on-base percentage and 1.196 OPS. Two of his three extra-base hits - all doubles - came in Sunday's series finale vs. St. Paul.
The young phenom broke onto the scene in 2025, climbing the ranks of Single-A Bradenton (50 games), High-A Greensboro (51) and Double-A Altoona (21) in 122 games. Across the three levels combined, he hit .333 (161-for-484) with 23 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, 94 RBI, 65 stolen bases and a .942 OPS. He finished the season ranked in the top 10 among qualified full-season minor leaguers in runs (2nd, 117), batting average (4th), total bases (5th, 155), OPS (7th), RBI (8th) and stolen bases (8th). Following the season, Griffin was named Pittsburgh's Young Bucs Honus Wagner Player of the Year, Bill Mazeroski Defender of the Year and a MiLB Rawlings Gold Glove recipient.
Griffin was selected by Pittsburgh as the ninth overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft from Jackson (Miss.) Preparatory School.
Indianapolis' first-time callups are presented by Franciscan Health.
