Roadtrip proves fruitful for Admirals

NORFOLK, VA - The Admirals made a four-game jaunt through New England last week, coming away with three victories and climbing to third place in the East Division. Anton Babchuk scored twice to lead the Ads to a 3-2 win at Bridgeport on November 2nd. Four unanswered goals sank Norfolk on November 4th, as they lost to Providence 4-1. Adam Munro made 35 saves in the Admirals' 4-2 win at Manchester on November 5th. Norfolk closed out the road trip yesterday, with all four Admirals skaters converting in a shootout to give the squad a 3-2 win at Lowell.

The Providence Bruins make their lone appearances at Scope this season on Friday and Saturday.

STANDINGS

At 5-6-0-1 (11 pts), Norfolk is currently third in the East Division. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (11-0-0-1, 23 pts) is in first, followed by Hershey (7-3-0-3, 17 pts) in second. Bridgeport (4-6-1-0, 9 pts), Philadelphia (4-7-0-1, 9 pts) and Binghamton (1-6-1-1, 4 pts) trail the Admirals.

TEAM NOTEBOOK

With Ajay Baines scratched from the lineup since November 2nd at Bridgeport, Shawn Thornton has donned the captain's "C" for the past four games. He is the first player to do so since Baines was first named captain on October 18, 2002.

Norfolk has outshot 11 of its 12 opponents thus far this season, and has totaled 458 shots to just 305 by its foes. Manchester outshot Norfolk 28-27 on November 6th, the only time this year an opponent recorded more shots than the Admirals. The Admirals had penalty shots assessed against them in back-to-back games on November 5th at Manchester and November 6th at Lowell. Adam Munro stopped both attempts. Carl Corazzini has 1+5=6 points in the last five games. Nathan Barrett has six points (2g, 4a) in the past six games. Adam Munro is undefeated in four straight games (3-0-1) since October 21st. Martin St. Pierre was reassigned to Norfolk yesterday. The Blackhawks acquired Andy Hilbert from Boston for a fifth round draft pick in 2006 on Sunday.
