Kevin Nastiuk made 40 saves in regulation and overtime but couldn't stop the Admirals in the shootout, as Lowell dropped a 3-2 decision to Norfolk at Tsongas Arena. Vince Bellissimo and Paul Healey scored first period goals for Lowell, but the Monsters could not hold onto the lead.
Monsters Memos
C Vince Bellissimo was awarded the third Lock Monsters penalty shot of the season on Sunday. Keith Aucoin (no goal) and Ryan Steeves (no goal) were the other two. Bellissimo did not score on the attempt, which came in overtime. Lowell has been involved in four of the 12 penalty shots in the AHL this season, with Vitaly Kolesnik stopping Curtis Glencross in Portland on Oct. 23.
Vitaly Kolesnik stopped 27 shots for his first pro shutout in North America on Friday. Kolesnik, an undrafted free agent signing of Colorado in August, has played his entire career in his native Kazakhstan. He compiled a 1.67 GAA in each of the last two seasons in Kazakhstan, and also played in four World Championships and a World Junior Championship for his homeland.
The Monsters have allowed three or less goals in the last eight games and in 10 of 12 games this season.
Lowell's power play was kept off the board on Saturday for just the second time all season. Their penalty killing unit has not allowed a power play goal in the last three games.
The Lock Monsters are 4-0 when Chad Larose scores a goal.
