Ricci Nets Pair in 3-2 Win Over Devils

North Charleston, SC -Forward Rob Ricci potted two goals including the game winner as the South Carolina Stingrays (19-14-1-1) pushed their unbeaten streak to five games with a 3-2 victory over the Trenton Devils (13-15-0-2) in front of 3,139 on FIRST Robotics Night at the North Charleston Coliseum Friday evening.

Stingrays defenseman Dylan Yeo broke open the scoring at 11:22 of the first period slapping a shot from the left point past the stick of Devils goaltender Dave Caruso. Forwards Matt Scherer and Luke Popko registered assists. The Devils tied the contest on the power play late in the frame when forward Jeff Prough deflected a Ryan Hayes shot past Stingrays netminder Todd Ford at 19:32. Defenseman Dave Leaderer received the second assist.

Forward Dan Charleston made it a 2-1 Devils lead at 3:05 of the second period from Prough and defenseman Justin Coutu. Ricci knotted it back up at with his 14 goal of the season at 10:32 tapping in a shot from defenseman Nate Kiser. Forward Tommy Goebel acquired the second assist. Moments later, Ricci put the Stingrays up for good firing home a rebound over the right pad of Caruso at 16:18 from forwards Jordan Pietrus and Samson Mahbod.

Caruso suffered the loss stopping 27 of 30 Stingrays shots. Ford pushed away 28 of 30 Devils chances for the win. The Devils went 1-for-2 on the power play while the Stingrays went 0-for-4.

The Stingrays and Devils go head-to-head again tomorrow, Saturday, January 8 at 7:05 p.m. at the Coliseum for Dogs on the Pond presented by Camp Bow Wow. Bring your dog to the game!
