Regan, Jackals Power Past K-Wings

Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals (16-10-5-0) scored four times on the power play and defeated the Kalamazoo Wings (13-15-1-2) 6-3 on Friday night at First Arena. Eric Regan had two goals and two assists for the Jackals, who improved to 2-0 in January.

The Jackals took the 1-0 lead when Justin Donati found Tyler Donati cutting into the zone on a tip pass, with T. Donati lifting the puck into the net on a backhand at 13:51. Regan had his first of point of the game on the play with an assist.

Regan scored his sixth goal of the season at 17:27 of the first with the Jackals on the power play. R.J. Anderson's shot was stopped by K-Wings goaltender Ryan Nie, but Regan on the near goal line chipped it in to put Elmira up 2-0.

At 18:58, A.J. Perry jammed in a puck on the doorstep with Regan and Jamie Fraser garnering assists on the goal which gave the Jackals a 3-0 advantage on a five-on-three power-play tally.

In the second period, Kevin DeVergilio jumped on the ice and immediately gave the Jackals a four-goal lead as he drove a puck past Ryan Nie from the left circle at 8:23. Patrick Coulombe fed DeVergilio to start the scoring chance, giving Coulombe his 14th assist and 20th point of the season, the fourth-straight season Coulombe has accumulated at least 20 points. The tally was the Jackals' third on the power play of the night.

Justin Taylor put Kalamazoo on the board with a forehand, backhand deke at 17:02 of the period to beat Jackals goaltender Mike Brodeur and make it 4-1 in favor of Elmira. Aaron Clarke had an assist on the play, his third-straight game with a point.

Regan's second tally of the game and fourth point of the evening came on a shot from the right circle at 14:48 of the third on a feed from DeVergilio to increase the advantage to 5-1.

Brady Leisenring scored a pair of power-play goals at 16:14 and 19:10 of the third period, but DeVergilio chipped in an empty netter to beat the buzzer at 19:59 to give the Jackals the 6-3 win.

Regan's two goals and two assists put him alone in second place among the ECHL's defensemen with 22 points. The four power-play goals were the most for the Jackals since Jan. 23 of last season.

Brodeur improved to 3-1-0-0 with the Jackals with a 32-save effort. Nie fell to 9-9-1-2 in 2010-2011, making 40 saves.
