Syracuse Mets News Release
Syracuse, NY - Behind five home runs, the Rochester Red Wings rolled to a 10-2 win in the series opener over the Syracuse Mets on Tuesday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
Rochester (40-53) struck first with a pair of solo home runs in the top of the first inning off Alex Sanabia. First, Keibert Ruiz hit a one-out solo shot, and then Daniel Palka made it back-to-back homers to put the Red Wings up 2-0.
Rochester added a run in the second. Donovan Casey led off the frame with a double. Derek Dietrich followed with a double of his own down the right-field line to score Casey and give the Red Wings a 3-0 lead.
In the fourth, Rochester extended its lead to 4-0 when Daniel Palka hit his second home run of the game, another solo shot.
The game didn't see another run until the seventh inning, where the Red Wings brought four runs home. Ruiz hit another home run, a one-out solo shot to make it 5-0 Red Wings. Palka followed with a double, and then with Jake Noll at the plate, moved to third on a wild pitch. After Noll was hit by a pitch, Mike Ford homered to hand Rochester an 8-0 advantage.
The Red Wings continued to increase their lead in the eighth. Blake Swihart hit a one-out single, and then Nick Banks worked a walk. Ruiz followed with yet another hit, this time an RBI single to score Swihart and make it 9-0 Rochester. Palka then connected on a one-run single to score Banks and extend the lead to 10-0.
Syracuse (37-57) finally got on the board in the bottom of the eighth. Mason Williams hit a leadoff single. Khalil Lee followed with his eighth home run of the season to make it 10-2 with Rochester still in front.
The Mets will look to bounce back in a Wednesday doubleheader. Right-hander Vance Worley will make the start for Syracuse against Rochester southpaw Ben Braymer in game one. In game two, Mets right-hander Zack Godley will face Red Wings right-hander Sterling Sharpe. The action begins at 4:35 p.m. from NBT Bank Stadium. Game two will start approximately 35 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
