NOTES OF THE WEEK

1. The Royals began this past week on a down note in the final game of Calendar Year 2014 on New Year's Eve at Satander Arena, where the Elmira Jackals handed Reading the team's first shutout loss of the season (0-4). AKer that, the Royals headed out on the road, where the results proved more favorable, as Reading won back-to-back games by iden?cal 3-1 scores over the Evansville Ice- men on Friday (January 2) and the Indy Fuel on Saturday (January 3).

2. Although the shutout loss to the Jackals snapped the Royals season long five game win streak, Reading stretched the team's current road winning streak to a season-long six games (6-0-0-0) with the wins in Ev- ansville and Indianapolis.

3. Reading has won seven of the team's last eight games and has com- piled a record of 10-2-0-0 in the team's last twelve games. During this twelve game span, Reading has outscored the opposi?on 38 - 27.

4. The loss to the Jackals on New Year's Eve provided an opportunity for the South Carolina S?ngrays to jump over the Royals into third place in the East Division (and push the Royals back to fourth). However, the Royals reclaimed sole possession of third in East Division with the two road wins that closed out the week.

5. The 3-1 win over the Indy Fuel on Saturday pushed the Royals' record to a season high nine games over .500 (19-10-1-1@), which translates into a .645 win percentage-second best in the East Division (and fourth best in the Eastern Conference-and sixth best in the league).

6. Last Wednesday's game was the first -me in the fourteen year history of the Royals that the team hosted a game on New Year's Eve. The 4-0 loss to Elmira dropped the Royals historical record to 3- 2-0-0 in games played on the last day of the Calendar Year.

7. The loss on New Year's Eve dropped the Royals record to 48-22-2-3 during the Calendar Year 2014. However, Reading's 48 wins in 2014 ?ed the team record es- tablished in Calendar Year 2005 (48-19-3- 5).

8. Elmira's 4-0 win on Wednesday at Santander Arena in Reading snapped the Royals four game home win streak (da?ng to a 2-0 win over the South Carolina S?ngrays on December 7). It also dropped the Royals home record to 9-7-1-0 through seventeen games on home ice, which translates into a .559 win percentage.

9. The Royals only play four home games during the month of January (in contrast to ten road games). Three of those games at San- tander Arena will be played this week: Wednesday (January 7) against the Wheeling Nailers and Saturday (January 10) and Sunday (January 11) against the Brampton Beast.

10. Last Wednesday's game was the third consecu?ve game that Reading played against the Elmira Jackals. The Royals had won the first two games in the series before the Jackals shutout Reading in third game of the trifecta. This marked the second ?me this sea- son that the Royals played three straight against the Jackals. In the first three-game set (October 24 - 26), the two teams had the same result, i.e. the Royals won the first two, but the Jackals won the third. Reading and Elmira play one more three-game "mini- series" coming up later this month (January 16 - 19).

11. The Royals have played eight of the fiKeen games that the team will play against the Jackals this season and have thus far com- piled a record of 4-2-1-1 with both regula?on losses to Elmira coming at Santander Arena in Reading..

12. Reading entered the third period in Wednesday's loss ?ed with the Jackals (0-0), but the Jackals proceeded to rip off four straight third period goals to beat the Royals (4-0). That marked only the second ?me this season that Reading entered the third period of play ?ed with the opposi?on but lost in regula?on (7-2-1-0).

13. Reading bounced back from the shutout loss to the Jackals on New Year's Eve by defea?ng the Evansville Icemen at Ford Center in Evansville, 3-1, on Friday. That marked the third win of the year in Evansville for the Royals, who have compiled a historical record of 7-1-0-0 at Ford Center in Evansville over the past three seasons (and 9-2-1-0 against Evansville overall). Reading has one more regular game against the Icemen this year, which will also be played in Evansville later this month (Wednesday, January 28).

14. The Icemen scored the first goal in Friday's game before the Royals mounted a successful comeback to win. That marked the ninth come-from-behind win of the year for Reading. The Royals have pulled off two of those comebacks against the Icemen at Ford Center-the other coming in a 4-3 victory on December 20.

15. Friday's game in Evansville marked thir?eth game of the year for the Royals, who compiled a record of 18-10-1-1 through the first 30. The eighteen wins through thirty games is ?ed for the fourth most wins in team history in the first thirty games of the year.

The team record for most wins through thirty games was established by the championship team (2012-13) (21-7-2) and the 2005-06 club (21-7-2). The 2010-11 team won twenty games (20-9-1) in the first thirty.

16. Reading won the team's second game in two tries at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Saturday. That victory pushed the Royals record to 4-0-0-0 against the Indy Fuel so far this season with four more regular season games to be played between the two teams (two more in Indianapolis-and the final two games of the 2014-15 regular season in Reading on April 10 and 11).

17. The Royals scored the game's first goal in Saturday's win in Indianapolis. Reading has compiled a record of 12-3-0-1 when scoring the game's first goal.

18. As noted above, the two road wins for Reading this week pushed the Royals season-long road win streak to six games, da?ng to the Royals first game ever at Indiana Farmers Coliseum-a 6-4 win on Wednesday, December 17.The Royals have compiled a record of 10-3-1-0 on the road this season, which translates into a .750 win percentage.

19. Ten of the Royals' fourteen games in the month of January will be played on the road. Those away games include a five-game road trip to close out the month (January 24 - 31), which will take Reading back to Evansville and Indianapolis (and also Charleston, South Carolina, Duluth, Georgia, and Cincinna?, Ohio).

20. Both of Reading's wins this week came against teams who play in the North Division. The Royals have compiled a record of 13-6- 0-0 against teams in the North through nineteen games-with nineteen more to go against teams from the North.

21. AKer the loss to Elmira last week, Reading's record against teams in the East to 6-4-1-1 through twelve games played-with seventeen more to be played against teams within the East Division.

22. The Royals will play the team's first games against a team from the Central Division (and Western Conference) this weekend, when the Brampton Beast travel to Santander Arena on Saturday and Sunday.

23. Wednesday's shutout loss to the Jackals marked the first ?me this season that the Royals offense was held off the board. In fact, it was only -me in the en?re Calendar Year that Reading was blanked-and it came on the last day of the year. That game marked the thirty-seventh regular season shutout against the Royals in the fourteen year history of the team.

24. Overall, Reading's offense has generated 103 goals in the first thirty-one games of the year. That translates into a 3.32 goals per game, which is seventh best in the league.

25. In each of the two wins for the Royals this week, the team held the opposi?on to just one goal. Reading has compiled a record of 9-0-0-0 when holding the opponent to one goal or less. Reading is 11-0-0-0 when allowing two or fewer goals.

26. Overall, Reading has allowed 95 total goals against, which translates into a 3.06 goals against per game, which is fiKeenth in the league.

27. AKer being held to just twenty-five shots by the Jackals on Wednesday night, the Royals generated thirty-eight shots in Evansville on Friday. On Saturday, Reading essen?ally 'split the difference' genera?ng 29 shots on gaol. Overall, the Royals average 32.19 shots per game, which is fiKh best in the league.

28. Reading held the opposi?on to fewer than thirty shots in each of the three games played this week (25 for Elmira; 27 for Evans- ville; and 29 for Indy). The Royals average giving up 30.90 shots against per game, which is twen?eth in the league.

29. The Royals power play was blanked in the first two games this week, stretching the streak to three straight games without a pow- er play goal. However, on Saturday, the Royals broke a string of sixteen consecu?ve power play opportuni?es without a goal (over a span of five games) when Reading struck for what would prove to be the game winning goal on Saturday in Indianapolis on the team's third (and final) PP chance of the game.

30. Nonetheless, Reading's power play has been held off the board in twelve of the last sixteen games, during which the team has gone five for fiKy-eight with the man advantage, which translates into an 8.6% scoring ra?o.

31. Overall, the Royals have gone 22 for 141 on the power play, which is a 15.6% scoring ra?o, which is twen?eth in the league.

32. Reading gave up a power play goal against in each of the first two games played this past week (against Elmira and in Evansville) to stretch the streak to three straight games in which the Royals had allowed at least one PPGA, which was the longest such streak for the team since giving up a power play goal against in each of the first four games of the season. During this most recent three game streak, Reading allowed four power play goals against in ten chances with the man advantage for the opposi?on.

33. Reading's penalty killers bounced back to blank the Indy Fuel power play on Saturday in Indianapolis. That marked the eighteenth ?me this year that Reading was perfect on kill. The Royals have compiled a record of 13-3-1-1 in those games.

34. Overall Reading is killing penal?es at a 82.4% clip (19 PPGA in 108 chances with the man advantage), which is sixteenth in the league. On the road, the Royals have compiled a 87.8% kill ra?o, which is sixth best in the league.

35. On Friday in Evansville, each of the three goals scored by Reading in that game-by Adam Hughesman, David Marshall, and Olivier Labelle-was the tenth goal of the season for each of those players; and the Royals now have five players who have reached double digits in goals scored: (i) Pat Mullane = 11; (ii) Cam Reid = 11; (iii) Adam Hughesman = 10; (iv) David Marshall = 10; and (v) Olivier Labelle = 10.

36. Pat Mullane leads the Royals with thirty points (11g-19a) in thirty-one games, which places him ?ed for seventeenth in league scoring. Although Mullane's six game point streak (3g- 7a=10pts) was snapped in the 4-0 shutout loss to the Jackals on Wednesday, Mullane, who has twenty-three points (6g-17a) in his last twenty games, bounced back with an assist on the insur- ance goal by Olivier Labelle against Evansville on Friday and then picked up a pair of assists in Saturday's win in Indy. That was Mul- lane's team-leading eighth mul?-point performance of the season-and his fiKh in his last nine games played. Those assists for Mul- lane stretched his current road point streak to eight games (3g-9a=12pts), da?ng back to the Royals 3-2 over?me loss in Elmira on November 21. This week, Mullane engaged in his first fight as a Royal (and second as a pro-he was involved in a crazy fight se- quence as a member of the Rockford IceHogs against the Chicago Wolves on March 21, 2014 in the AHL) when he fought Colin Mur- ray of Evansville on Friday. Mullane, who is second on the team in plus-minus at plus-11 (+11) to this point of the season, is ?ed with Cam Reid for the team lead in goals scored with eleven, which have come on just 58 shots for a team-leading 19.0% shoo?ng per- centage.

37. Cam Reid recorded his sixth mul?-point game of the year-and third in a span of five games-when he picked up a pair of help- ers, which included the primary assist on David Marshall's game winner, in Friday's 3-1 win over the Icemen in Evansville.

38. Adam Hughesman snapped a six game goal scoring drought when he bagged his tenth of the season to ?e Friday's game in Ev- ansville at one 54 seconds into the second period. Hughesman, who leads the Royals with 85 shots on goal, also engaged in his first -lt as a Royal (and his third fight as a pro) when he fought Jus?n Daniels in Wednesday's loss to the Jackals.

39. David Marshall broke a five game goal scoring drought when he bagged the Royals' second goal in the Royals' 3-1 win in Evans- ville on Friday (forty-five seconds aKer Adam Hughesman had ?ed the game at one). For Marshall, that was his team-leading sixth game winner of the year-which is ?ed with Jack Combs of the Allen Americans for the league lead.

40. Although Olivier Labelle had his five game point streak snapped on Wednesday in the 4-0 loss to the Jackals, he rebounded to score his tenth goal of the year to give the Royals a 3-1 lead in Friday's win in Evansville. For Labelle, that was his all-?me team ca- reer leading 81st goal as a Royal. Labelle, who has played 187 games as a Royal, has 153 points (81g-72a) in his ?me with Reading.

41. Ryan Cruthers recorded his twenty-second point of the season (7g-15a) when he recorded the primary assist on the power play game winner (by Sean Wiles) in Saturday's 3-1 win over Indy. For Cruthers, who is the team's all-?me leading scorer, that was his 245th point (78g-167a) in his 242nd game with the team.

42. Defenseman Mike Marcou, who picked up an assist on the third period insurance goal by Olivier Labelle in Friday's win in Evans- ville, leads all d-men on the team with eighteen points (3g-15a), which is ?ed for fiKeenth in scoring amongst defensemen in the ECHL.

43. Defenseman Zach Davies recorded his fourth mul?-point game of the season when he picked up a pair of assists, including one on the game winner by David Marshall, in Friday's win in Evansville. Davies generated a personal season high seven shots on goal in Saturday's win in Indy. He leads all ac?ve d-men on the Royals' roster with sixty-seven shots on goal.

44. Sean Wiles scored his first power play goal of the year, which also proved to be his first game winner of the season, with forty- two seconds leK in the second period of Saturday's 3-1 win in Indianapolis. For Wiles, that was his fourth goal in his last nine games.

45. Defenseman Michael Caruso scored his first goal as a Royal (and in the ECHL-in his twenty-fourth game in the league, aKer 353 in the AHL), when he notched the game's first goal in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Fuel. Caruso, who played to a plus-2 (+2) in Satur- day's win, has played to a collec?ve plus-9 (+9) in the fourteen games that the Royals have played since December 4, 2014.

46. Playing in his 152nd regular season game over three seasons as a Royal (and in the ECHL) (and his 179th game with the team including playoff games), defenseman Bry- ant Molle scored his first goal for Reading with ten seconds remaining in Saturday's win over the Fuel. Molle also rec- orded an assist on the Royals' first goal in that game to notch his first mul?-point performance ever with Reading.

47. Andrew Johnston picked up an assist on the game's first goal (by Michael Caruso) in Saturday's win in Indy. For Johnston, that was his sixth point of the year (2g-4a) and his fourth point (1g-3a) in his last seven games with the team, during which he played to a plus-5 (+5).

48. Kevin Walrod recorded his first assist of the year when he picked up the primary assist on Bryant Molle's empty neSer on Saturday in Indy.

49. Although goaltender Mar?n OuelleSe had his personal five game win streak snapped in Wednesday's 4-0 loss to Elmira, he bounced back to record his tenth victory of the season in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Royals. That game marked the sixth ?me this season that OuelleSe has held the opposi?on to one goal or less. OuelleSe, who has won six of his last seven games, has compiled a record of 9-2-1-1 in his last thirteen games for Reading. Overall, OuelleSe has a record of 10-5-1-1 with a 2.70 goals against average (third best amongst rookie goaltenders in the league) and a .913 save percentage with one shutout.

50. Connor Knapp stretched his personal win streak to three straight games when he made twenty-six saves in Reading's 3-1 win in Evansville on Friday. For Knapp that marked the third ?me this year that he has held the opposi?on to one goal. In his ?me with the Royals, Knapp has compiled an overall record of 8-5-0-0, with a 3.16 goals against average and a .897 save percentage.
