EVANSVILLE, Ind.- Here's what's happening with the Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light.

Last week's Headlines

Over 18,000 Fans Flock to Ford Center for New Year's Week Games

More than 18,500 fans made their way to the Ford Center for the three IceMen games held during New Year's week. The largest crowd came on New Year's Eve when over 8,000 fans watched the game and a post-game fireworks display.

IceMen Begin 2015 with a Fresh Start/ New Coach

The Evansville IceMen have announced that five time championship coach and NHL veteran, Al Sims has been named the team's new Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations. Sims replaces Dwight Mullins who posted a record of 9-16-2-2 through the first twenty-nine games of the 2014-15 ECHL season.

"We decided it was time for a fresh start," IceMen Owner, Ron Geary said. "We have the best fans in the ECHL and we want to make them proud of us. We want to put the best team possible on the ice for them."

"I'm excited and thrilled to be in Evansville," Sims said. "Mr. Geary is first class. So is Mr. Riggs. I couldn't be more excited to get behind the bench for my first game with the IceMen."

This Week's Games (Friday, Jan. 9 at Missouri 7:05 p.m., Saturday,Jan. 10 at Wichita 7:05 p.m., Sunday Jan 11, at Wichita 5:05 p.m.)

The Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light will take a three-game road trip through the Central Division. They will visit the Missouri Mavericks on Friday night for the first time since the two teams met in the 2011-12 CHL playoffs in a series that was won by Missouri.

Evansville will continue it's third three-in-three stretch with a two game stint against the Wichita Thunder. The IceMen will play the Thunder on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Fans can see all three games live at Bar Louie, the Official Watch Party Destination of your Evansville IceMen.

The IceMen will return to home ice when they host the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday Jan. 17. Evansville will try to use the force to defeat the dark side (Cincinnati) at the IceMen's annual Star Wars night.

League Leaders and Milestone Watch

-Chris Driedger is tied for third in the ECHL in shutouts. He is also tied for the IceMen's shutouts record. Driedger is second in the ECHL in saves with 663. The rookie has also played the 5th most minutes with 1,363

-Kevin Harvey leads the ECHL in major penalties with 14. Harvey also ranks 4th in the ECHL in penalty minutes with 132.

Milestones

-Jim McKenzie scored the 100th point in his ECHL career in Friday's game against Reading. He already scored his 101st against Kalamazoo on Saturday.

-Matt Lowry is two assists away from 10th place in IceMen history.

-Kevin Harvey is two assists away from 100 for his pro career.

Guy Lepine moved in to 6th place on the IceMen's all-time top 10 list in Penalty minutes with his 161st penalty minute. Lepine passed Interim Head Coach Jos Beauliu's mark of 157.

-Brandon Wong is three assists away from 100 for his ECHL career.

With Josh Beaulieu as the new coach at the helm, the Evansville IceMen charged out to a 1-0 first period lead. However, the Reading Royals scored two in the second and one in the third to spoil Beaulieu's debut as interim head coach.

Saturday vs. Kalamazoo L 6-5

In the Evansville IceMen's, presented by Coors Light, highest scoring game of the season, a fluke bounce proved to be the difference. With the game tied at five, the puck ricocheted off the boards and Dane Fox into the net to help the Kalamazoo Wings pull off a 6-5 win.
