
Toledo's Barnes Named CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Toledo Walleye forward Tyler Barnes is the CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month for December.
The 24-year-old had seven goals, added 10 assists and was a +10 in 13 games during the month helping lead the Walleye to a 9-2-2 record.
A native of Burnsville, Minn., Barnes had at least one point in 10 of the 13 games in December, including a personal season-high four points (1g-3a) in a 4-0 win at Indy on Dec. 19. He had three points (1g-2a) in Toledo's 6-2 victory at Elmira on Dec. 6 and had a pair of two-point efforts - Dec. 4 at Reading and Dec. 9 against Gwinnett.
Under contract to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League, Barnes leads all ECHL rookies, and is tied for fourth overall in the league, with 36 points (13g-23a). His 23 assists are tops among first-year players and tied for third in the league, and his 13 goals are third on Toledo.
Barnes played the previous four seasons at the University of Wisconsin, totaling 101 points (45g-56a) in 152 games. Prior to joining the Badgers, he spent two seasons with Waterloo of the USHL.
Runners Up: Eric Faille, Fort Wayne (12 gp, 7g, 6a, 13 pts.) and Derek Army, Wheeling (11 gp, 6g, 7a, 13 pts.).
