Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
FOX CITIES STADIUM -- Game two of Wednesday's doubleheader was a relief for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. They rode a four run second inning and four scoreless innings by reliever Nick Allen to a 6-2 victory over the Kane County Cougars for a split in the twinbill.
Kane County (36-23) jumped to the early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning off Rattler starter Justin Ockerman. Jose Pineda's RBI single made the score 1-0. A sacrifice fly by Raul Padron put the Cougars in front 2-0.
Wisconsin (25-34) struck back quickly in the bottom of the second. Luis Valbuena stole third and scored on a throwing error by Padron for the first Rattler run of the inning. Michael Saunders put the Rattlers in front later in the inning with a two-run triple. Eddy Hernandez capped the inning with an RBI single.
Ockerman, making his first appearance since 2003, hit his pitch limit after the second inning and Allen entered to start the third inning and kept the Cougars off the board for all four of his innings. Allen extended his scoreless inning streak to 13-1/3 innings after his performance in game two.
The Rattlers tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI double by Eddy Hernandez and an RBI single by Jeff Dominguez.
Joe Woerman pitched a scoreless top of the seventh to extend his own scoreless streak to 15-1/3 innings and nail down the win for the Rattlers.
Game three of the series is Thursday night. Paul Fagan (2-5, 4.70ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Trey Shields (5-5, 5.66ERA) is slated to start for the Cougars. Game time is 7:05pm.
