Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
When the Kernels score runs on the field, the team benefits. Now they've organized another type of run that will benefit the entire community.
On June 10th the team will hold its second annual Kernels Foundation Benefit 5k Run/Walk. The race will begin at Veterans Memorial Stadium at 8:00 a.m. and is scheduled to end at the stadium as well.
All proceeds from the event will go toward the Kernel Foundation, a non-profit group that supports recreational activities that promote values, responsibility, and character development.
Cash prizes and gift certificates will be awarded to top finishers in each age group (both men and women) and trophies will be awarded to the top three overall finishers as well as the top finisher in each age group. Each entrant will also receive a coupon which can be used for admission to any future Kernels game, including that evening's game with the Fort Wayne Wizards, the Midwest League affiliate of the San Diego Padres.
Following the race there will be food and beverage available as well as an awards presentation and a drawing for door prizes.
Interested persons may register in advance for the race by contacting the Kernels at (319) 363-3887. Pre-registration is $20 which includes a t-shirt ($12 without) and people may register the day of the race for $25 ($15 without shirt). Race packets can be picked up Friday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bimm Ridder Diamond Shop at Veterans Memorial Stadium and on race day from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.
