Silver Hawks defeat Devil Rays 15-2

Bend - In hopes of trying to make the playoffs by securing a playoff spot in the first half, the South Bend Silver Hawks will need to string offensive efforts and pitching performances together to make a run over the next 10 games. Tuesday night, the Silver Hawks provided offense and pitching in a 15-2 victory over the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays (28-31).

The Hawks (29-28) scored on an error and RBI single from Bryan Byrne for s 2-0 advantage.

Manuel Ferrer opened the third inning with a double to left. With one out Leyson Septimo reached on an infield single with Ferrer scoring from second on a fielding error by shortstop Neil Walton and a 3-1 Hawks lead. Justin Upton's base knock to center moved Septimo to third, with Upton taking second on the throw to third. Bryan Byrne walked loading the bases and Trey Hendricks singled to right, plating Septimo and Upton for a 5-1 Hawks lead. With Byrne advancing second, Will Crouch walked loading the bases for Frank Curreri, who was hitless with the bases jammed coming into the game. Curreri delivered a double to left field to score Byrne and Hendricks to put the Hawks a 7-1 lead.

Ryan Schreppel, who started for the Hawks Tuesday, equaled his lowest hits allowed. The left-hander gave up four hits in six innings. Schreppel also helped himself by picking off two runners at first base.

With the win, Schreppel improves to 3-6, while Wade Davis drops to 4-2.

The Silver Hawks continue their four game set Wednesday night with first pitch at 7:00 PM and gates opening at 6:00 PM. Thursday's are Triple Play Thursday's with 103.9 The Bear and WB 25.
