Rampage Sweep Weekend Series with Lake Erie
February 8, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
CLEVELAND - The San Antonio Rampage (19-21-3-5) swept the Lake Erie Monsters (20-23-0-4) in the weekend back-to-back, slipping past them 3-1 tonight at Quicken Loans Arena.
Drew Shore scored his second goal in three games to kick it off for the Rampage, with Jared Gomes following suit in the second period for his second of the year as well. Gomes added an assist on the night for a two-point night, earning the game's First Star. Logan Shaw netted his first career AHL goal with 55 seconds left in regulation to close the door on the weekend in favor of the Rampage.
Joey Crabb earned the primary assist on Gomes' tally, for nine points (5g-4a) in his last 13 games, while Jed Ortmeyer had himself a two-point night with assists on the Gomes goal and the Shaw goal. Every single Rampage skater recorded at least one shot on goal in the win.
Jacob Markstrom stopped 21-of-22 on the night to earn the Second Star.
In a similar fashion to Friday night's game, the Rampage opened the scoring, though this goal came in the opening moments rather than the tail end of the frame.
Bringing the puck into the zone, Shore pushed it around the end boards and Butler was there to pick it up and send it cross-ice back to Shore, who quickly buried it behind Lake Erie net-minder Calvin Pickard to make it 1-0 just 3:24 into the game.
Shore's early tally would stand through the period, with the Rampage dominating puck possession and outshooting the Monsters 15-6 through 20. The goal comes as his 50th career AHL point.
With 2:06 remaining in the second, Crabb sped over the Lake Erie blueline, waiting until he fully captured Pickard's attention before sending a perfectly executed centering pass through the crease to a waiting Gomes. He wasted no time in cashing in, tapping the puck backdoor to send the Rampage into the third with a 2-0 lead over the Monsters.
Michael Sgarbossa cut the Rampage lead to one 5:10 into the third, as he and Garrett Meurs broke in on a 2-on-0, beating Markstrom to make it 2-1.
The Rampage continued their offensive frenzy, spending over a minute in the offensive zone late in the third, culminating in a rocket from the circle by Shaw to ice it 3-1.
The Rampage went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Lake Erie could not convert on the one chance they were given (0-for-1). San Antonio owned the shot counter 33-22.
The Rampage resume the Rodeo Road Trip next weekend, opening up a back-to-back with Grand Rapids on Feb. 14-15. Individual and season tickets can be purchased at the AT&T Center Southeast Box Office, by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554, or online at sarampage.com.
