
Crunch Fall to the Falcons in OT

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch scored three third period goals to force overtime before falling 6-5 to the Springfield Falcons tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
By earning a point in tonight's game the Crunch's season total is now 44 and overall record is 18-21-4-5. Crunch netminder Allen York allowed six goals on 23 shots in his second consecutive start. Falcons goaltender Mike McKenna stopped 36 of 41 shots. Syracuse converted on two of eight power-play chances and stopped three of four Falcon power plays.
Falcons gained an early lead 3:19 into the first period when a point shot from defenseman Dalton Prout found its way past York. Assists were credited to Frederic St. Denis and Tim Miller. The Crunch evened the score at 5:45 thanks to a Phil Paradis slapshot from the top of the right circle, assisted by Evan Rankin.
Falcons forward Jack Skille scored on man-advantage three minutes later with a shot from the left circle to give Springfield a 2-1 lead. J.F. Jacques, and Michael Chaput picked up assists on the goal. Springfield increased their lead with a goal from Jacques at the 11:06 mark of the second period. Jacques tipped a Prout blast from the point to go up 3-1. Springfield extended their lead with a goal from Alex Aleardi at the 12:55 mark of the second. A pass from Paul Thompson from the bottom right circle gave Aleardi the opportunity near the crease to put in it in past York on the glove-side. Secondary assist was credited to Chaput.
Syracuse answered with a power-play goal from Dana Tyrell to cut the lead to 4-2 with 4:24 remaining in the middle frame. The goal was the Crunch's first power-play goal in six games. By picking up assists on the play Tanner Richard earned his first of three assists on the night and Dmitry Korobov tied the team lead with 17 assists on the season.
Rankin cut the Falcons lead to 4-3 when he found the back of the net on a power-play 8:19 into the third period. Rankin put in the rebound of a Richard shot on the right side cage. Springfield pushed their lead back to two goals 14:35 into the third with a goal from Tim Miller. Jonathan Marchessault picked up the lone helper on the goal. Back-to-back goals led the Crunch to even the score at 5-5 with 2:32 left in regulation. Crunch captain Mike Angelidis swept a backhanded shot into the net stick-side, cutting the lead to one. Two minutes later Joey Mormina slipped a shot between the legs of Falcon netminder McKenna.
In overtime Prout gave Springfield a 6-5 victory when his slap shot from the point beat a screened York low to the right side at the 3:52 mark.
