Pirates Enter Bears' Den to Face Hershey

Hershey, PA - The Portland Pirates head to Hershey for the final game before the All-Star break as they face the Bears Saturday night. Puck drop is 7 PM for the first matchup between the Pirates and Bears this season.

Portland dropped a 5-1 decision to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last night. The Pirates and Penguins were tied going into the third period, but the Penguins score three times in the first four minutes of the third to take the lead. The Pirates tied a franchise record with only 13 shots on net during the game. Jordan Martinook had the lone Pirates goal, a shorthanded tally, and Brett Hextall picked up an assist to set a career high in both assists and points in the loss.

The Bears fell to the Rochester Americans last night in Rochester by a 4-1 score. Former Pirates goaltender David Leggio made 29 saves for the Bears, while Jeff Taffe had the Bear's goal, a power play tally. Hershey currently sit in 9th in the Eastern Conference, one point behind the Providence Bruins for the 8th and final playoff spot.

This is the first of two meetings between the Bears and Pirates this season, with the second to come at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on April 2. Their last meeting was last April, a 6-3 Bears victory. Joey Crabb had a hat trick for the Bears, while Troy Bodie had two of the Pirates' goals. The Pirates and Bears split the 2 game series last season, with the road team winning each game.

Bear Down: 4 minutes in the third period cost the Pirates last night's game, so the team must play a complete 60 minutes tonight. Portland must focus on the game until the final horn in order to get the victory.
