Portland Pirates News Release
Hershey, PA- The Portland Pirates dropped their final game before the All-Star Break on Saturday, falling 2-1 to the Hershey Bears in Hershey. Brandon Yip had the Pirates' tally and Brandon Gormley extended his point streak to 3 games in the loss.
After a scoreless first period, the Pirates and bears traded goals 52 seconds apart in the second. Hershey opened the scoring as Peter LeBlanc tipped a Cameron Schilling shot past Pirates starter Louis Doming to give the Bears a lead 1-0 at 5:22 of the second. Brandon Yip answered for the Pirates at 6:14 of the second, tipping Brandon Gormley's rebound past Philipp Grubauer to even the score. Yip's goal was his 6th of the year, with Tobias Rieder picking up the secondary assist on the goal. Domingue would be key in keeping the Pirates level with Hershey, stopping a series of shots in the closing minutes of the period to keep the Bears off the board and the score tied into the second intermission.
Hershey took the lead for good in the third. Dane Byers scored his 6th goal of the year with 16:03 left in regulation to give Hershey a 2-1 lead. Despite intense pressure from the Pirates with the extra attacker at the end of the period, Grubauer stood strong in net for the bears, finishing with 11 saves in the third and 30 saves overall. Louis Domingue made 34 saves for Portland, but dropped his 5th straight decision, not including a shootout loss to Springfield. The Pirates head into the All-Star break with a record of 17-21-2-7.
