P-Bruins Defeat Monarchs 3-2

Manchester, NH - The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 3-2 Saturday evening. Matt Fraser, Andrew Cherniwchan and Mike Moore scored for the P-Bruins, while Niklas Svedberg made 31 saves in the victory.

The P-Bruins opened the scoring at the 15:55 mark of the opening period, while on the power play. Ryan Spooner fed Fraser in front of the net, who scored off a backhand shot, beating Monarchs net minder Martin Jones glove side for his 17th goal of the season. Ben Youds picked up the second assist on the goal as Providence led 1-0 going into the first intermission.

Manchester tied the game at one at the 7:45 mark of the second period. Nick Deslauriers shot the puck to the net and it deflected off Svedberg's glove for his 15th goal of the season. The goal was unassisted. The P-Bruins retook the lead at the 14:25 mark when Cherniwchan scored off the rebound from a shot from Rob Flick. It was Cherwichan's fourth goal of the season as the P-Bruins led 2-1 going into the second intermission.

The P-Bruins took a two-goal advantage at the 4:21 mark of the third period. Moore wristed a shot past Jones after he held on to the puck going down the left wing for his second goal of the season. Alexander Khokhlachev and Anthony Camara recorded the assists. Manchester pulled back within a goal at the 6:27 mark, while on the power play. Linden Vey scored his tenth goal of the season on a one-timer from the left circle. Deslauriers and Tyler Toffoli had the assists. Providence played solid defense for the remainder of the period keeping Manchester off the board and holding on for the 3-2 victory.

Svedberg stopped 31 of 33 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jones made 18 saves for the Monarchs. The P-Bruins went 1-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
