
Dogs Overcome Three-Goal Deficit, Dump Sens 5-4

OTTAWA, ONTARIO - The Hamilton Bulldogs fell behind 3-0 in the first period to the Binghamton Senators on Saturday evening, but fought their way back into the game to force overtime, then defenceman Jarred Tinordi scored with 30 seconds to go to seal a 5-4 comeback victory for the 'Dogs (21-22-0-4) over the Sens (29-15-1-3) at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.
Binghamton forward Shane Prince started the scoring with a breakaway goal at 2:03 of the first period, assisted by forwards Andre Petersson and Jim O'Brien.
Senators forward Mike Hoffman put his club ahead 2-0 just 1:47 later, assisted by forwards Cole Schneider and Stephane Da Costa.
Hoffman buried his second goal of the evening at 12:19 of the opening frame to make it 3-0, with assists from Schneider and defenceman Daniel New.
With just over a minute to go in the first period, Hamilton forward Mike Blunden got the 'Dogs on the board on the power play with his ninth goal of the season, assisted by forwards Nick Tarnasky and Gabriel Dumont.
Dumont narrowed the gap to 3-2 with his team-leading 11th goal of the season at 7:30 of the second period, with assists from forward Patrick Holland and defenceman Darren Dietz.
At 12:24 of the middle frame, Bulldogs forward Maxime Macenauer tied the game 3-3 with his sixth goal of the season, assisted by forward Sven Andrighetto.
In the last minute of the second period, Petersson scored on the power play to give Binghamton a 4-3 lead. Hoffman and goaltender Andrew Hammond earned assists on the play.
Hamilton forward Christian Thomas tipped home a shot by defenceman Jarred Tinordi to tie the game 4-4 with less than five minutes to play in regulation. Andrighetto notched a second assist on Thomas' seventh goal of the season.
At 4:30 of the overtime period, Tinordi buried a wrist shot short side on Hammond for his second goal of the season to complete the comeback for Hamilton. Forward Martin St. Pierre earned the only assist on the play.
Mayer made 36 saves on 40 shots in the Bulldogs net in the win. Nathan Lawson got the start in goal for the Senators and made six saves on seven shots in 20 minutes of action. Hammond took over at the start of the second period and made 29 saves on 33 shots for Binghamton in the loss.
Both teams went 1-for-3 on the power play.
