Rampage Rally to Beat Milwaukee in OT
April 2, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage have been a resilient team all season and they proved it again with a thrilling 3-2 come from behind overtime win over the Milwaukee Admirals on Wednesday night at the AT&T Center.
Forward Jon DiSalvatore had a pair of goals and forward Joey Tenute provided the game winner 1:58 into sudden death as the Rampage picked up their third straight win. San Antonio is now in a three way tie for third place in the AHL West with 88 points. The Rampage and the Admirals do it again on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center. Tickets are available by calling (210) 444-5554, visiting any ticketmaster outlet or the Southeast AT&T Center box office.
The Rampage had some early scoring chances in the first period, but were unable to put the puck by Admirals goalie Dov Grumet-Morris. At 15:49 of the frame Milwaukee took advantage of a power play opportunity when forward Josh Langfeld lifted home a backhander for his 20th goal of the season on a nice feed from forward Cal O'Reilly. San Antonio out shot the Admirals 17-10 in the first, but trailed 1-0 after one frame.
In the second period the Rampage continued to pump rubber towards the net. Finally on a five-on-three power play the Rampage tied the game as DiSalvatore slammed in a rebound at 1:15. It was his 19th of the season. The Rampage once again carried the play in the second period out shooting Milwaukee 17-3.
In the third period the Admirals took advantage of a break to take the lead. Rampage goalie Al Montoya went behind the net to play the puck, but couldn't handle the bounce. The puck ended up in the right circle where forward Andreas Thuresson fed a pass across to forward Matt Ellison who slid it into the empty net at 9:36 and a 2-1 Milwaukee lead.
With time winding down the Rampage pulled the goalie for an extra attacker looking to tie the game. With less than a minute to go DiSalvatore slung a shot from the right corner that deflected off the inside of the right pad of Grumet-Morris and into the net to tie the game at 19:03. It was the second of the night and 20th of the year for DiSalvatore, the fifth straight season he has totaled 20 or more goals. Once again the Rampage out shot Milwaukee, this time 17-9 in the frame.
In overtime forward Bill Thomas lead a two-on-one rush and Tenute just missed winning the game as his tip went wide of the net. Moments later Thomas and Tenute got loose again and Tenute went top shelf to win the game with his 21st of the season at 1:58 of sudden death. FINAL SCORE San Antonio 3, Milwaukee 2 in sudden death.
Montoya played 61:58 and stopped 21 of 23 shots to improve to 21-12-3. Grumet-Morris stopped 50-53 shots in 61:58 and fell to 4-3-0. The Rampage were 1-6 on the power play while the Admirals went 1-4. San Antonio tied a franchise record with 51 shots in regulation and finished with a franchise record 53 for an over time game, while Milwaukee had 23.
