Defenseman Nick Ross joins Rampage

SAN ANTONIO (Apr. 2, 2008) - The San Antonio Rampage announced today that they have signed defenseman Nick Ross to an amateur tryout (ATO) for the remainder of the season. Ross agreed to an entry level contract with the Phoenix Coyotes that begins with the 2008-09 season.

Ross, who turned 19 in February, was selected in the first round (30th overall) by the Coyotes in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He recently completed his fourth Western Hockey League campaign (WHL), splitting time with both the Regina Pats and Kamloops Blazers this year.

Ross began the 2007-08 season with Regina, where he collected 3-25-28 and 60 penalty minutes (PIM) in 41 games. After being traded to Kamloops on Jan. 5, Ross collected 5-14-19 and 55 PIM in 31 games. He finished the season with career-bests in goals (8), assists (39) and points (47). He also notched two assists with Kamloops during the postseason.

A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Ross played in one NHL preseason game with the Coyotes this year.

The 6-foot-1, 194-pound Ross appeared in 214 career WHL games with Regina and Kamloops, collecting 22-80-102 and 242 PIM. He also registered 1-8-9 and 26 PIM in 20 career WHL playoff games.

According to league by-laws, American Hockey League (AHL) teams are permitted to add signed junior players or players on amateur tryout contracts after their respective junior or college seasons are complete to their Clear Day roster submissions.
