Rainiers Have Four-Game Winning Streak Snapped in El Paso

El Paso, TX - Right fielder Jaycob Brugman slugged a home run in his first Tacoma Rainiers at-bat, and 18-year-old Robert Perez homered for the second day in-a-row, but El Paso erupted for two huge innings in a 24-4 final to snap Tacoma's four-game winning streak at Southwest University Park on Saturday.

With the Rainiers (29-28) trailing El Paso (35-21), 2-0 in the second, Brugman pulled a solo blast to right field to get Tacoma on the board. The outfielder, who was officially signed to a Minor League deal on Saturday, added another hit and Tacoma's final run in the top of the ninth.

The Chihuhuas got to Tacoma starter Justus Sheffield (2-4) for seven runs in 2 2/3 innings and Nick Rumbelow for another three before Perez launched his solo home run in the top of the fifth. The Venezuelan teenager is 11-for-30 (.367) in his first nine games with the Rainiers.

Austin Nola doubled home Ian Miller in the top of the sixth to make a dent into the then 14-3 deficit.

The Rainiers turned to a pair of position player to record the final three outs. David Sheaffer recorded the first out of the ninth but was charged with eight runs (seven earned) before Kristopher Negron allowed one hit but got the final two outs.

The 24 runs allowed and 20-run margin of defeat were both the second most against the Rainiers this season.

The Rainiers can take four of five from the Chihuahuas with a victory in Sunday's finale at 5:05 p.m. PDT.
