
RailRiders Walk off over Lehigh Valley

MOOSIC, PA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders rallied in the ninth inning Wednesday evening to steal a 4-3 series-opening victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. The RailRiders stole a season-high six bases and earned their second consecutive home walk-off win with two runs in the ninth.
Hayden Wesneski made his fourth start of the season and allowed three runs on four hits over six innings. Wesneski became the first Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter to make it through six frames this season. He also retired the first twelve batters of the game in order for the second time this year. Lehigh Valley countered with Ricardo Sánchez, who pitched three shutout innings with five strikeouts.
The RailRiders got on the board first in the fourth. After Ronald Guzmán walked with one out in the inning, he advanced to third base thanks to a passed ball and a balk. Two batters later, Ender Inciarte drove Guzmán in with an infield single to make the score 1-0 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
However, the lead didn't last long. Lehigh Valley answered with a three spot in the top of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. Following a leadoff single from Jorge Bonifacio, Nick Maton hit his third home run of the season to make it 2-1 IronPigs. Four batters later, Lehigh Valley scored once more. A rundown between first and second took long enough to allow Will Toffey to steal home.
Estevan Florial picked up his fifth RBI of the season with his bases loaded walk to cut the lead in half at 3-2 in the seventh. . Meanwhile, Michael Gomez and Zach Greene combined to throw three perfect innings out of the SWB bullpen while striking out four.
José Peraza was hit by a pitch to start the ninth. Oswald Peraza followed with a walk. Oswaldo Cabrera tied the game with a run-scoring double to center. He has now doubled in four straight games. Two batters later, Greg Bird was hit by pitch with the bases loaded to force in the winning run and seal a 4-3 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre walk-off victory.
Zach Greene (3-0) earned his third win out of the bullpen for the RailRiders. Jeff Singer (1-1) took the loss with a blown save for Lehigh Valley. The RailRiders are now 8-10 on the season and have won back-to-back home games.
