CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Peyton Burdick homered, but the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp stumbled Wednesday in a 10-1 defeat to the Charlotte Knights from Truist Field.

In a scoreless second, Jacksonivlle (11-9) starter Jeff Lindgren (1-1) ceded a single to Blake Rutherford before walking Micker Adolfo and allowing a single to Nick Ciuffo to load the bases. Jameson Fisher and Zack Remillard each notched RBI singles before a three-run double from Adam Haseley put Charlotte (8-12) ahead 5-0.

Rutherford started the third with a single before advancing to third on an Adolfo double. Two batters later, Fisher's RBI ground out plated Rutherford to make it 6-0.

Haseley jumpstarted the fourth with a home run. Yolbert Sánchez followed with a base hit before Carlos Perez smacked the second long ball of the inning to widen the gap to 9-0.

In the fifth, Remillard walked. Back-to-back singles by Haseley and Sánchez followed, with the latter driving in Remillard to increase the Knights' advantage to 10-0.

Wes Benjamin (2-0) fanned nine Jumbo Shrimp and scattered three hits in 6.0 shutout innings to earn the win. The lone Jacksonville run came on a Burdick home with two outs in the eighth.

Jacksonville sends RHP Bryan Mitchell (0-0, 5.23 ERA) to the mound against Charlotte RHP Johnny Cueto (0-0, 0.00 ERA) in Thursday's 7:04 p.m. first pitch.
