January 16, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
DULUTH, Ga. - The Gladiators announced that the team has acquired goaltender Kent Patterson from the Orlando Solar Bears in exchange for forward Marshall Everson on Friday.
Patterson, 25, played in 17 games for the Solar Bears this season, accruing a 5-9-2 record, a 3.12 goals-against average, and a .901 save percentage. Last year, Patterson played in 40 regular season games for the Denver Cutthroats of the CHL, picking up 23 wins, a 2.71 GAA, and a .922 SV% as he led the team to the league's Presidents' Cup Finals.
The Plymouth, Minnesota native was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the fourth round (113th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He also has AHL experience, as he's played in seven games for the Lake Erie Monsters since the 2012-13 season.
Prior to his professional career, Patterson played for four years at the University of Minnesota. His best season came in his senior year, when he played in every game for the Golden Gophers, collecting a 28-14-1 record, a 2.32 GAA, and a .907 SV%.
He also put together a robust trophy collection that season; he nabbed his third WCHA All-Academic Team selection, a WCHA First Team All-Star spot, the title of WCHA Goaltending Champion, and a spot on the NCAA Second Team All-American.
Everson, 24, has played all but two of his 80 career professional games with the Gladiators. In 25 games with Gwinnett this season, Everson has six goals and 10 assists. Last season, Everson led the team in points with 43 (21g, 22a) in 53 games played. The native of Edina, Minn. was a four-year forward with the Harvard Crimson, compiling 31g and 32a in 119 games played.
Patterson will join the Gladiators in time for their next game on Saturday against the Florida Everblades at Germain Arena. The Gladiators' next home game will be on Monday, January 19th at a special start time of 12:35 p.m. for the team's annual MLK Kids' Day Out celebration.
