Stockton Thunder News Release

Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have acquired forward Vinny Scarsella from the Utah Grizzlies in exchange for forward Ryan Hayes.

Scarsella, 25, is in his fourth season in pro hockey after completing a four year NCAA career with the Canisius College Golden Griffins. After averaging nearly a point per game in college, Scarsella played 8 games with the Elmira Jackals before heading to Europe for a season in Germany and a season in Sweden.

The Lackawanna, New York native has played with the Utah Grizzlies since the 2013-14 season, playing a total of 101 games and registering 57 points. The 5'7=A1=E5, 179 pound forward has found the back of the net 7 times while adding 11 assists this season including a goal and an assist against the Thunder.

In exchange the Thunder have traded Syracuse, New York native Ryan Hayes to Utah after playing for the Thunder since the later portion of the 2012-13 season. Hayes was part of the Thunder's run to the Kelly Cup Finals, scoring 24 points in 23 games and went just over a point-per-game last year with 35 points in 32 games, missing the majority of the season while on injured reserve. This season Hayes has 22 points.

Teddy Bear Toss is coming up soon for the Thunder as fans will be invited to bring stuffed animals to the game on January 24 and once the Thunder score their first goal, are invited to toss them out onto the ice where they will be distributed to children in need.
