Short-Handed IceMen Topped by Komets Power Play

January 16, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind.- With just 13 skaters by the end of the game, the Evansville IceMen could not overcome being short handed both on the ice and on the bench as the Fort Wayne Komets scored on three power plays to capture a 4-2 win.

Scott Greenham made 38 saves for the IceMen and did not surrender a 5-on-5 goal to Fort Wayne. Kevin Harvey had two assists in the loss.

In the 50th all-time meeting between the two teams, Fort Wayne struck first. Mike Embach scored a power play goal with three seconds remaining on the man advantage to give the Komets a 1-0 lead that they would carry into the first intermission.

Just 1:38 into the second period, the Fort Wayne power play put in another one. Ian Barteaux scored on a slap shot to make it a 2-0 Komet lead.

Evansville's power play would answer. Matt Lowry fired a shot that Roman Will stopped. Colin Murray found the rebound and blasted it into the back of the net to cut the Komet lead to 2-1. Harvey picked up an assist on Murray's fifth goal with the IceMen.

The Komets responded when CJ Severyn lit the lamp from the high slot. Severyn's 4-on-4 goal gave the Komets a 3-1 after two frames.

A third period power play produced another Komet tally. Embach tacked on his second of the game to make it a 4-1 Fort Wayne lead.

Evansville would fight back. Kevin Harvey sent the puck off the back boards to Jarret Lukin who flipped a pass to Zack Currie right in front of the net. Currie slammed it past Roman Will to cut the Komet lead to 4-2.

However, the IceMen could not get any closer as Will closed the door to preserve a 4-2 win for Fort Wayne. The IceMen stand at 26 points (11-21-2-2) exactly halfway through the season.

After a five game road trip, The IceMen will return to home ice when they host the Cincinnati Cyclones tomorrow night. Evansville will try to use the force to defeat the dark side (Cincinnati) at the IceMen's annual Star Wars night.

On Jan. 19, the IceMen will host the Cyclones again. Evansville fans can get upper bowl tickets for just $5 with the Evansville Courier & Press Front Page Fan Ad. The Ford Center will treat fans to $1 soft drinks and $1popcorns for this Martin Luther King Day game.
