Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. -The Colorado Eagles (24-13-0-0) battled past the Alaska Aces (15-16-2-1) with a 5-4 nail-biting over-time win Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center to extend the Eagles winning streak to six.
3:45 into the contest, Eagles forward Trent Daavettila fed a pass to a wide open Nathan Moon, in front of an open net, who took care of the rest. It only took 1:46 of elapsed game time before Brock Nixon ricocheted a pass off linemate Greg Gardner's stick to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Aces defenseman Corbin Baldwin fired a slapshot from the left point to beat Eagles goaltender Clarke Saunders glove-side high to pull within one, 2-1, 1:32 into the second period. :55 later, Eagles forward Jordan Kwas buried home a perfect pass from Gardner to help the Eagles regain the two goal advantage, 3-1. Aces forward Raphael Bussieres found himself with the puck in the low slot 6:39 into the second period, finding a gap above Saunders' left shoulder to pull the Aces within one, 3-2. 9:56 into the middle frame, Alaska defenseman Brad Cole found the back of the net by beating a screened Saunders under his glove to bring the game to a 3-3 tie. 1:30 later, Brett Kulak rifled a Nathan Moon pass over Aces goalie Niklas Lundstrom's right shoulder on a one-timer to give the Eagles a 4-3 lead.
Aces forward Brendan Connolly scored on a shot from the right point on the power play, beating Saunders low to pull the game to a 4-4 tie with 7:33 remaining.
The tie carried into overtime, lasting until the 3:34 mark, when Eagles defenseman Collin Bowman hammered a pass from Daavettila in the low slot to give the Colorado Eagles their sixth consecutive victory, 5-4, a new season best.
