Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Greenville Road Warriors (24-14-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, received goals from Vinny Saponari and Trevor Parkes on Friday, and converted six of seven penalty kills, but suffered a 4-2 setback to the Indy Fuel (8-21-7) at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

The loss snapped Greenville's three-game winning streak and dropped the club to 13-6-0 on SANDLAPPER Securities Rink this season.

For the second consecutive night, Indy struck first during the middle stages of the opening period when Kyle Stroh notched a bizarre goal at the 12:19 mark. From the right corner, Vincent Arseneau threw a sharp-angled shot to the crease that slid underneath goaltender Jeff Malcolm. The whistle did not sound and as Malcolm turned to uncover the loose puck, Stroh walked through the slot and pushed it home from the doorstep for his eighth goal of the season, from Arseneau and Garett Bembridge.

The Fuel used their second power play of the game less than two minutes later to take a two-goal lead at 14:03 of the first. With Paul Rodrigues in the box for roughing, Stroh fired one of his nine shots on target from the left side that was kicked wide by Malcolm, but the rebound slid directly to Rhett Bly at the bottom of the left circle for a one-timer and his seventh goal of the season.

Greenville cut the deficit to one just 1:28 into the middle frame when Saponari earned his 11th goal of the season and team-leading 31st point. Chris McCarthy set up the play by edging Nick Bruneteau in a race to the puck in the right corner, before centering a pass for Saponari in front. With no time to spare, Saponari pushed a one-timer past the blocker of goaltender Mac Carruth.

Indy answered just past the midway mark of the game and built their largest lead of the contest with two unanswered goals from Mike Duco and Sam Posa. At 13:39 of the second period, Stroh collected the puck at the half-wall in Greenville's zone and walked to the corner, before sending a crisp pass to the crease where Duco punched it in for his ninth goal of the season. Less than two minutes later, Stroh skated through the right circle to the door step and fed the puck to Posa for a blocker-side shot and his first goal of the year.

Parkes produced the game's final tally at 16:09 of the second period with his 11th goal of the season in his 200th professional appearance. From the blue line, Ryan Hegarty smashed a slap shot towards the front of the cage before McCarthy backhanded a second chance on target from the slot. Following a kick-save by Carruth, Parkes pushed a forehand shot between Carruth's blocker and the near post for the 4-2 final.

Greenville finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play and 6-for-7 on the penalty kill, which equaled the most times the Road Warriors have been shorthanded this season (Oct. 19th at Orlando). Between the pipes, Malcolm (15-8-0) made 31 saves in the loss, while Carruth (2-9-4) stopped 30 shots for the win.

Indy outshot Greenville 35-32.
