Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced today that left wing Pascal Pelletier has been named a starter for the Canadian Team in the 2008 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Reebok. The game will take place on Monday, January 28 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, New York, one evening after the 2008 CCM AHL All-Star Skills Competition. Both events begin at 7 p.m.
The team comprises 24 players, including 13 forwards, eight defensemen and three goaltenders, all born in Canada. AHL fans determined the starting lineup via on-line balloting at www.theahl.com, while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remainder of the roster.
Pelletier, 24, receives the honor exactly one week after receiving the league's CCM/AHL Player of the Month Award for the month of December 2007, during which he had 13 goals and 22 points. Overall, the fourth-year pro and third-year P-Bruin leads the AHL in goals with 23 and ranks fourth in the league with 45 points in 37 games. In addition, Pelletier's plus-19 rating is good for a third-place tie in the AHL. Presently, the native of Labrador City, Newfoundland, has tallied points in eight consecutive games, one contest shy of his season-high streak of nine, and he has scored seven goals and added five assists along the way. Pelletier notched his 200th professional point with the first of two power play goals against the Albany River Rats on December 27, 2007. The winger has 14 multi-point games this season and has received a star in 15 of Providence's 37 contests. He originally joined the P-Bruins on December 16, 2005 from the ECHL's Gwinnett Gladiators.
Joining Pelletier as starters for the Canadian squad include Rockford Ice Hogs center Martin St. Pierre, Manchester Monarchs right wing Teddy Purcell, defensemen Lawrence Nycholat of the Binghamton Senators and Rockford's Cam Barker, as well as Albany River Rats goaltender Michael Leighton.
The rest of the Canadian team's forwards include Derick Brassard of the Syracuse Crunch, Binghamton's Denis Hamel, Hartford Wolf Pack wing Nigel Dawes, Mike Iggulden of the Worcester Sharks, former P-Bruin Jason Krog, now with the Chicago Wolves, Clarke MacArthur of the Rochester Americans, Joel Perrault of the San Antonio Rampage, Rich Peverley of the Milwaukee Admirals, Jeff Tambellini of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Kyle Wanvig of the Norfolk Admirals. The defense is made up of Micki DuPont of the Peoria Rivermen, Chicago's Joel Kwiatkowski, Ryan O'Byrne of the Hamilton Bulldogs, Adam Pardy of the Quad City Flames, Alexandre Picard of the Philadelphia Phantoms and Toronto Marlies blue-liner Derrick Walser. Backing up Leighton in net will be Drew MacIntyre of the Manitoba Moose and Houston Aeros backstop Nolan Schaefer.
The PlanetUSA roster will be announced by the AHL Thursday afternoon.
Providence, the top team in the AHL with a record of 29-5-2-1 and 61 points, returns home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday to host the Worcester at 7:05 p.m. On Saturday, the P-Bruins travel to the Cumberland County Civic Center for a 7:05 p.m. tilt with the Portland Pirates. Providence then wraps up the weekend Sunday, welcoming the Springfield Falcons to Rhode Island at 4:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins season ticket packages and individual tickets for the 2007-08 regular season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging on to the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
