Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)...The Rochester Americans announced today that World War II veteran James Alexander will be performing the ceremonial puck drop prior to Sunday night's American Hockey League contest between the Amerks and the Peoria Rivermen at The Blue Cross Arena.

A native of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Alexander has been an avid hockey fan all of his life. As a boy, he would skate for miles on end on the creeks and ponds nearby his childhood home. He spent most of his teen years in Peoria, Illinois before joining the United States Navy. During World War II, Alexander served on the USS Gillespie Destroyer.

After the war, Alexander found a home in New York City with his family and continued to be involved in the sport of hockey, both as a player and as a coach. He played the game for over 55 years as a defenseman in an "Old Timers League" in Long Island until the age of 62. He also served as a coach to several youth teams, including his daughter Nancy's. To this day, Alexander still loves hockey and watches it regularly on television.
