Norfolk Admirals News Release
HERSHEY, PA - Admirals goaltender Marc Denis made 28 saves, but the Norfolk Admirals (11-23-1-3) fell to the Hershey Bears (21-13-0-2) 2-1 on Wednesday night at Giant Center as Hershey netminder Daren Machesney allowed only one goal on 30 shots.
The Bears took a 1-0 lead just 40 seconds into the game. Chris Bourque sent a slap shot from the right circle that went through a screen and past Denis.
The Admirals tied the game at 1-1 near the midway mark of the opening frame. Dan Jancevski sent a shot from the right point that was deflected over the left shoulder of Machesney by Mario Scalzo at 11:33.
The Bears went ahead for good midway through the second period on a Scott Barney goal. Steve Pinizzotto sent a pass from the bottom of the left circle to Barney at the bottom of the right circle. Barney converted the backdoor play by beating Denis to the glove side at 12:44.
The Admirals out-shot the Bears 16-8 in the final frame and had several quality chances in the game's final minutes. However, Machesney would not allow the equalizer.
Marc Denis (30 shots, 28 saves) was saddled with the loss. Daren Machesney (30 shots, 29 saves) earned the victory.
Norfolk was 0-2 on the power play. Hershey was 0-3.
