Iowa Chops News Release

The Chicago Wolves broke open a close 3-2 game with three goals in the first 8:08 of the third period as they defeated the Iowa Stars 6-4 Wednesday night in Rosemont, IL. The Stars scored two goals in the final two minutes to cut into the lead, but it was too late. The Stars return home to begin a seven game home stand Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena against the Milwaukee Admirals at 7:07.

After the Wolves jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, the Stars rallied to tie the game with Marius Holtet's sixth of the season in the first period and Konstantin Pushkarev's fourth of the season in the second. The second period, in which the Stars outplayed the Woves and outshot them 14-11, ended 3-2 after the Wolves reclaimed the lead on a goal by Jordan Lavallee three minutes, 21 seconds later.

The goal that hurt the Stars the most came just 36 seconds into the third off the stick of Darren Haydar and two more goals later, the Wolves had a 6-2 edge. Chris Conner and Vojtech Polak scored the goals in the final two minutes to make it close.

Tobias Stephan started and played the first 48:08 to take the loss with 28 saves on 34 shots. Steve Silverthorn relieved Stephan and stopped all four shots he saw.
