
Mike Iggulden named AHL All-Star

WORCESTER - Worcester Sharks President and CEO Michael T. Lehr, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced on Wednesday that forward Mike Iggulden has been selected to the Canadian squad for the 2008 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Reebok, which will take place this month at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, N.Y. The event includes the 2008 CCM AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday, January 27, and the 2008 AHL All-Star Game on Monday, January 28.
A 25-year-old native of St. Catharines, Ontario, Iggulden receives his first All-Star appointment in his third full season in the Sharks organization. Through 34 games this year, he has 15 goals and 21 assists along with 19 penalty minutes. He leads the Worcester Sharks in goals, assists, points, shots (85) and has played in every game this season for the Sharks.
Mike Iggulden scored a season high 30 goals last season with the Sharks through 73 games. After playing four seasons at Cornell University, Iggulden played six games with the Rochester Americans before signing a free agent deal with the San Jose Sharks the following season. He scored 22 goals and 48 points in his rookie season with the Cleveland Barons in 2005-06.
The 2008 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Reebok will match the league's Canadian-born All-Stars against the PlanetUSA All-Star squad, which is comprised of players who were born in the USA and all other countries. The PlanetUSA squad will be announced on Thursday.
The Worcester Sharks and the city of Worcester have been awarded the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic. The event will take place at the DCU Center in January, 2009. The 2009 event in Worcester will mark the fourth time since it was revived in 1995 that the AHL All-Star Classic will take place in New England. The AHL All-Star Game was last held in Massachusetts in 1959 at the Eastern States Coliseum in West Springfield.
The Sharks hit the road this weekend with games in Providence on Friday and in Albany on Saturday. Worcester travels to Hartford on the 16th before returning home for a pair of games at the DCU Center on the 18th vs. Portland and on the 19th vs. Providence. The first 3,000 fans will receive a signed Lukas Kaspar hockey card on the 18th while the first 3,000 will receive a Joe Thornton Bobblehead Doll vs. the Bruins.
