Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - Matt D'Agostini scored just 1:11 into overtime to lift the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 3-2 win over the Binghamton Senators on Wednesday night at Copps Coliseum. The win, Hamilton's fifth in its last six games, improves the âDogs record to 15-15-1-5 on the season.
Scott May opened the scoring 4:12 into the first period, giving Binghamton a 1-0 lead. Nick Foligno and Josh Hennessy assisted on May's second goal of the season.
The âDogs evened the score 1-1 at the 16:04 mark when Francis Lemieux feathered a pass to Ryan Russell who banged home his second tally of the season. Jonathan Ferland also earned an assist on the play.
While on the power play at 4:03 of the middle stanza, Lawrence Nycholat scored to break the tie giving the Senators a 2-1 lead. The marker was Nycholat's eighth of the campaign and was assisted by Alexander Nikulin and Ilya Zubov.
Hamilton pulled even when Ajay Baines notched his fourth goal of the season past Binghamton netminder Jeff Glass at the 7:37 mark of the second frame. Duncan Milroy and Conrad Martin, who earned his first-career AHL point, drew the helpers on the 2-2 goal.
After a scoreless third period, the game was forced to overtime.
At 1:11 of the overtime period, D'Agostini was fed a breakaway pass from Marvin Degon and made no mistake pulling the puck to his backhand and sliding it past Glass. The goal, also assisted by Eric Manlow, propelled the Bulldogs to a 3-2 win.
In his first start for Hamilton this season, goaltender Carey Price turned aside 22 of 24 shots to preserve the victory, while Glass made 33 saves on 36 shots in a losing effort for Binghamton.
The âDogs were unsuccessful with the man advantage going 0-for-6, while the Sens went 1-for-1 on the power play.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, January 11th at 7:30 p.m. when they host North Division rivals the Syracuse Crunch at Copps Coliseum.
